Even though it's sold, I thought I'd show the aesthetic modifications I did to my Gen4 T4R before I sold it. I got bored with the way my interior looked, so I decided to change it up a bit, twice! The first change was painting the silver trim pieces metallic blue. If I had the 4Runskie to do over again, I woulda went with a metallic gray instead. The second change was vinyl wrapping those pieces in 3M 1080 Black brushed steel. I also cleaned up the headlights with 2000-3000 grit sand paper and buffed them out with polishing compound and sealed them. The exterior trim, badges and wheels were Plastidipped using Anthracite and Matte Black finishes.
This is a thread with pics of it all done at once. I decided not to make separate thread and to just show it all here.
All modifications were during my ownership before I decided to sell it to a buddy of mine whom I know will keep it running for years to come. It's creeping up on 200k and due for a timing belt change and water pump. It previously had the electronic shift actuator replaced shortly after I bought it. Other than that, it's G2G!
Below are some pics of what I did to it. The interior was a "dual" process so to speak. Underneath all that trim it was pretty filthy. So as I took it apart, scrubbed and cleaned not just the trim pieces, but also what hidden under those parts. in all the nooks and crannies. I let a family member keep (store) it while I was deployed and well, it was utilized and smoked in heavily! Needless to say it needed a lot of work to get the coffee stains, ashes, fast food gunk and the smoke smell out permanently. A major cleaning process (which took days to weeks with continuous treatments) under the dash, in the vents tunnels, under the center console, seats, rear cargo compartment, carpets and headliner neutralized any smell. I used some Simple Green, apples, coffee grounds, newspapers, bowls of apple cider vinegar all in combination over time to eliminate the funk and smoke smell. With my buddy's help, the smell has been neutralized!
I just wanted to write up this thread to help out those who are looking for ideas to use or improve on and that wanted to do some inexpensive and fairly easy DIY interior and exterior trim modifications to their Gen4 Runner.
