05 Sound Proofing

Does anybody know if the 05 Limited has any more sound proofing than the SE or SR5?

I think all 4Runners have the same sound insulation. I have to say though that the 2005 Limited sounds a lot quieter than my 2003 Sport. It could be the different tires though.

My guess is they're the same

I used to hear a fair amount of road noise and thrum through ththe back of the truck, UNTIL that is, I put a heavy weight folded moving blanket on the rear deck floor. It made a big difference. The truck is noisier when the road is very wet. Most of the sound is from the rear, resonating in the cargo area.

I also notice that leaving the privacy curtain oulled over the rear storage area cuts down some noise as well. I read a few posts around about sound proofing the truck, but if I could just do the cargo area, I think it would make a big difference. Also wonder if placing a piece of plexi over the rear seat (like a middle rear window) would also cut down road noise.

Otherwise it is a very quiet vehicle, better than my last Olds sedan in fact.

I don't know about older Runners but my 05 Limited is whisper quiet. I sold an Avalon and delivered it to the new owner. I put the old plates in a bag and on the way home there was this slight tapping noise that scared me being the truck is brand new. I got about halfway home and pulled over to try and find the noise. When I opened the rear door I saw the bag and new immediately the plates were making the tapping noise. I separated the plates and sure enough. The truck is so quiet, the slightest noise is so noticeable.

Maybe it isn't my imagination then!! My parents 2005 does have the rear air suspension. The ride is quieter than my 2003 Sport without it.

I have the rear air suspension, I also have very thick dog blanket/bed in the back and I use the retractable sun shade. When driving I've noticed, in general, how quiet it is inside while driving. It seems like a cocoon, really quiet.

A quality Undercoating product (we used Diamond Coat's "Premium Sound Sheild") is probably the best sound-deadening mods one can make. I have driven coated vehicles with non-coated back to back many times, and the difference is notable, particularily cutting out the "tinks" from gravel being kicked up by the tires. Rust protection and a nice uniform black colour underneath are also bonuses.

Some places have quite reasonable prices, yet others charge ungodly amounts for this crap. It can be done fairly easily by one's self if you're willing to make a decent mess, ruin a set of clothes and have access to an air compressor

around town i can barely hear the engine idling at the lights and no road noise from the tires whatsoever. the turning signals even seem to loud as to bother me because the interior is so quiet. but get this puppy on the freeway and the wind noise reminds me of the nickname of a famous bmw motorcycle dubbed, "the flying brick"!

05 SE. Very quiet interior, esp compared to the new Pathfinder and Endeavor which I just test drove last month. BUT, I did notice that the 4runner's engine is much louder from the outside (I notice when I start it up in the AM to warm up the cabin).

I agree...the wind noise is the biggest noise I hear. I may try that trick with the rack to minimize wind noise.

my 05 sport (no air suspension) is dead quiet inside...'sound proofing' never even crossed my mind because it is so quiet
