06 4.0 limited Gas cap - Warning lights

I know this subject has been beaten to death all over the internet, but my situation seems somewhat unique.

A few months back I first received the warning lights on my dash. This turned out to be a faulty gas cap. A replacement of the cap and disconnect of the battery fixed it. Today, the problem is back.

Now keep this in mind. I have tried a total of 3 different gas caps. One locking, one not, and one official Toyota cap, which is currently on the runner.

I believe that this problem lies within the fact that no matter what cap I try, the cap never seems to fully tighten. Say if I am to turn the cap to take it off, it doesn't seem to give any resistance. It just turns right off and out. It doesn't have that locking feel like it once did. It is almost as if the metal ledges inside the opening are worn, but I see no sign of that.

Has anyone experienced this problem to this level? Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

Can you take some up close shots of the gas tank area where the lip is? It really sounds like there is some deformation of the area. Are you the only owner? My buddy had the same problem with his and as it turns out his wife failed to mention she forgot to take out the gas nozzle when she was done and pulled away with it still in the car. Needless to say she bent the sh*t out of it.
 
What were the DTCs when you checked them all those times?

Also how much resistance are we talking? A picture of the fuel filler lip would be useful
 
No trouble codes were found when scanned. I will provide a pic later on, when I am near the vehicle.

I wish I was the only owner. I have a bone to pick with the previous owner concerning the lack of care to the undercarriage. Nice and rusty. But, that is another story. I will upload some pics a little later this evening.

Essentially what happens is the gas cap will turn upon tightening and will click and continue to click, but it is very apparent that it is doing nothing as far as tightening. And when I turn it to untighten, it just turns right away. No feeling of resistance, no sound of pressure release. I would say a faulty gas cap, since it keeps rotating, but seriously what are the odds. I could try one more OEM cap, to rule it out.
 
Hmm... You should have a DTC or two if the gas cap want sealing properly and the MIL is on..

Can you get us a picture or two of the filler neck without the cap on? Also has the gas tank ever been out or the vehicle been in an accident?
 
Just had the code pulled. P0051. Sounds awfully familiar. Here are a couple pics of the gas opening. I'm not seeing anything weird. Maybe we are looking at a different problem here this time? Thoughts guys?

P0051 is "O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Low, Bank 2 Sensor 1". This isn't related to your gas cap, and the most likely reason replacing your cap fixed it before was because you also disconnected the battery at the same time, resetting the system. It then takes many drive cycles for the ECU to determine the O2 heater is faulty and illuminate the MIL. The fix for P0051 is to replace the O2 sensor, not the gas cap.

For your weak sealing gas cap, are you positive it's actually failing to seal? Nothing looks strange about your filler neck, and you've tried 3 different gas caps which all give the same "weak" feeling... maybe see how the stock gas cap feels on someone else's T4R?
