06 4R Hood Scoop Removal question

has anybody took out thier cover inside the hood scoop leaving the grill? is their any benefit opening the hood scoop?

i just thought of it since it is almost summer here in so cal. thought could help cool it down.

You could remove it but it'll probably let a bunch of dirt into the engine compartment. I would leave it closed.

We had this same argument about the non-functional hood scoop on the 99-04 Mustangs on a Mustang forum. A couple of members did this and all that happened was dirt and debris got in the engine compartment. There really is no advantage to doing this, it might cool the eninge a degree or two, but you will have to be traveling fast to get any significant amount of air in there.

The question you have to answer is, are you having trouble keeping the engine cool?

You have a thermostat that controls temp. If the engine is heating up, (with the thermostat open) then maybe you have a problem with the circulation system.

If it's so hot that your engine is overheating, then opening the hood to more hot air won't help.

Your engine draws intake air from the passenger's front fender well, outside the engine compartment, so there would not be any advantage to opening up the scoop. It would only allow rain/water and dirt in the compartment.

I've tried it and its not as easy as it sounds because the grill is an integral part of the plastic piece blocking the air and you also have to punch a hole in the hood insulation to get to one of the bolts.
