06+ 4Runner Headlights on 2003 4runner?

Hey guys! So I am planning to put the 2006 4runner projector headlights on my 2003 Limited V8. So I read all of the previous threads, but I cannot seem to find the answer to my question.

I am planning on putting in the "proper" bulbs into the headlights, as in not putting HIDs in. That means it uses an H11 bulb. Since I have a 2003, I know I do not currently use an H11 bulb, but rather a 9004. Do I need some sort of wiring harness or adapter in order to get the lights to work with my current wiring?

I know the turn signal lights require an adapter, which I am going to pick up, but I cannot for the life of me find a definitive answer on the H11 bulb. Any and all help would be appreciated!

You need a 9006 to H11 conversion harness. They are dirt cheap on ebay.

You will have problems with your parking light as well. The socket from the 03 will not fit the 06-09. What I did was cut some sockets from a couple cars at the junkyard. One size was from an Accord front turn signal, the other from a 90something 4Runner turn signal or parking light. I have a thread here that may help.

I wired the smaller one to the old parking light and have not wired the other. What you do will depend on where your turn signals are and the look you want. My turns are in the bumper so I didn't do anything with them. There is a harness you can buy to hook them up (search) but it is ridiculously expensive.

you do know that the headlights do not directly cross over. you will need a new trim piece below the headlights as well as the front grill will not fully match up any longer.

Yea i know the grille wont be an exact match. I ordered the trim pieces and i have seen a bunch of images about the grille gap, and honestly it doesnt bother me. Not enough to go through all of the trouble of putting the 06 grille and hood on there. Thanks!

Thanks for all of the input. I picked up one of those wiring converters. You are right. That is dirt cheap! As for the other wiring harness you mentioned, is this it?

I have a friend at the dealership/shop, so i might be able to pick it up for cheap. Let me know what you think. I really appreciate your response!

The grill gap is no big deal. I have had tons of compliments on the updated 06+ headlights and trim and zero comments about the gap, which I don't notice myself ever and I am anal about that type of shit. It's a great mod, good luck.

i have 06 on my 03. I cut and re wired the harness so its a direct match. Just need to cut and solder the new harness on. I've posted in Momo's thread as well in my build thread about it. Incredibly easy. Big upgrade in visual and performance out of the headlights.

Yea that is what I am looking for essentially. A visual upgrade in addition to a performance upgrade. I will read through your build thread too! Thanks! Would the wiring harness I linked above be the same as cutting/soldering my own wires?

Haha yea I am pretty anal about stuff like that too, but I thought all of the pictures I have seen looked great. The gap almost looks like it was meant to be there. I am looking forward to it so much. :D

Yes, that is the one. You will need two of course.

If you decide to switch to HIDs there are threads on that. Go with xenondepot 35 watt kit, search for discount code.

Hey man I have a really quick question for ya. So I am doing this mod this weekend. I have the harness and I am looking at the current wiring. My current 4Runner does not have drls.

So my current parking lights has a green wire and a white/black wire. I know the green is positive and the black/white is ground. Can I cut the connectors off of both the new harness and the old wiring, solder the green to the green and black/white to the black white? Will that make my parking lights work? I don't have a red wire anywhere, but there is one on the harness. Any idea how I can get that to work? Sorry for all of the questions but I am just at a loss right now. Could you post a pic or two of your wiring setup on your 03?

I don't have DRLs either. I simply matched colors together. I know from the marker light from original wiring I wired to the marker light in the new harness. I cut both connections off and then matched colors. I remember poring two into one but I can't remember what colors. All my wires loomed and covered up. I'll try to see if I have a pic from when I did it in my phone.

I also brought the blinker wire up to the headlight as the 06 has them now in the headlight.

Ok cool. Sorry I have so many Qs. Just wanna get this right the first time. If you could get a pic that would be fantastic. Cutting both ends and then soldering the matching colors is easy, but I'm just confused on where the red wire comes in since there isn't a matching one on the original wiring. If you combined green and another wire, that would be easy I guess, but if not, then I am genuinely curious how you did it. Thanks so much man. I appreciate it.

Don't worry about the questions. I had to figure it out myself so I'll try to help any way I can.

I can't get to mine so tell me again what the red and green and white wires connect to on the back of the headlight so I can try to visualize.

Okey dokey. Thank you so much. Here goes:

So here is the wiring harness that I was told was needed for the headlights. So the right-most connection is what is supposed to connect with the current 03 wiring. The one in the middle and on the left are the ones where the bulbs go in. As you can see, the white/black wire goes to both, but the green only goes to one and the red goes to the other.

So that is the harness. In my current car wiring, only the green wire and black/white wire are present. There is no red wire. I see a red wire connecting to the current low and high beams, but nothing going to the side marker/parking light where this harness is supposed to connect to. Could the green and red in this harness both be positive, meaning they could be spliced onto the same positive green wire in the car wiring?

When i get back to my computer i will read through this thread better and see if i can help out. Reading it on my phone is a pain

These pics any help?

momo.75 and LTDSC

I took some pics of the current wiring found in my car. Are they any help in figuring out this wiring harness business? This is just one side of the car.

This first pic is what appears to be the wires connecting to the passenger side bottom turn signal. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be making things easy as there is a red wire and a green wire. The wiring is the same on the driver side, but the factory routing seems to be a bit more logical lol.

This next picture is of the wires going into my current parking lights in the passenger headlamp As you can see, there is a green and a white wire with a black stripe. Those are the only two going to that light.

This last picture is just an overview shot of the back of the passenger headlight assembly. Probably not useful.

And here is the wiring harness mentioned in a previous post for convenience sake.

So here is my thinking and it makes sense to me, but I could be way off. So the green wire on the new harness is the marker/parking light, so that should get spliced into the green wire heading to the current marker light in my stock 03 wiring. The red wire on the new harness is the DRL/Turn signal, and there is red wire on the bottom turn signal in my 03 stock wiring. I should splice those together so they both flash when I turn on my turn signals. And then since they share a ground in the new wiring harness, I should be able to find a random ground and splice it in to that.

Does any of this jog your memories? Thanks guys!
