06 Bug Shield

Cool, yes let us know if it actually ships? You would hope they weren't just taking preorders for it. But they obviously made the effort to make 2006 one of the options. All of this for a bug shield.
 
well just as you guys suspected it hasn't shipped yet....they split my order up and the bug guard didn't ship. I will let you guys know as soon as it ships. I knew it was too good to be true!!! Keep yall posted!!
 
well...my dealer said they have the 06 bug shield and the price is about $151 and $92 installation.

they said it has to be drilled. does this sound right or does it sound like an 05 being modified for the 06?
 
hmmmm, that sounds interesting. What exactly has to be drilled? The bug shield, or an attachment point on the 4Runner? That just doesn't sound right, but maybe that is the solution.

Well It shouldn't have to be drilled, unless they changed the design on the 06, I know the 05 bolted on... But I would say that no they are not trying to modify an 05, unless they don't know that it won't work yet.

I bought an 05 guard and the dealership swore to me it would fit an 06, and that they had just put an 05 guard on an 06 the month before, so I bought it, took it home and couldn't get it to fit. So they told me they could make it fit, I assumed modifying it somehow, so I got them to try to put it on and guess what. They couldn't get it to fit. They told me that my hood was "different" than the others. Whatever, it doesn't fit. The hood design has changed and the design of the 05 guard just wont work.

Apparently we have two threads on the same topic. I just ordered the same item from the same place that you did. The salesman said if the part wasn't available, they would take the listing off of the website. I'll be waiting to see who gets theirs first?

Bug Shield / Hood Protector Backordered

Well, Autowebaccessories.com just notified me that the 06 hood protector (bug shield) has been back-ordered. I cancelled the order instead of having it go to back-order. Who knows when it will finally be available.

After looking at the hood on the '06, you can't help but wonder how they are going to attach a bug shield to the hood. I sure don't want a hood protector so bad that I will let them drill some holes in my hood.
 
The way it works is you open the hood, remove the front grll (very simple, just 8 screws) and then you sandwich the guard between the grill and the hood. Using the screws from the grill..

So if they had to drill holes they would be on the undeside of the hood, and hidden by the grill, so you would never see them. But if they design the 06 the way the 05 was, no modifictions to the car should be necessary.
 
atomic they did the same thing to me.....they actually cancelled the order and refunded me the money.....in the mail it stated that Toyota has no idea when the bug guard will be availiable. NOT GOOD NEWS!!!! They said they are going to take it off the websight until Toyota notifies them its ready for sale. Keep us posted guys if anyone finds one somewhere else.

sorry guys thought this might be the real deal!!! oh well!!
 
I got one last Monday. On the box it says 4Runner 2003-2006. I'll try to install it tomorrow and we'll see if it is a real deal.

Thank you! I hope it goes well. I kind of worry about that rubber sealant, or whatever it is between grill and hood. I got it from small shop and if I find a receipt I let you know who makes it. Toyota also has it but waiting time is around two months and it costs $130. I didn't want to wait. If I don't ruin my truck I'll post a picture!

Not really sure what sealant you are talking about, when I dissasembled my grill attempting to put the 05 guard on there was no seal. Just unbolt and go.
 
I thought it was a sealant but turned out just a pice of rubber. The guard didn't fit anyway. Central part just wasn't right, I am gonna ask these guys why it says 03-06 4Runner on the box. It has to be bent somehow in the middle to fit there. Or as an option you can drive without a grill but with the guard :) I'm ordering one from Toyota and we'll see what happens.
 
I got an e-mail from Toyota on Friday informing me that the 06 Hood Protector was now available. I contacted the dealer I bought my T4R from (and have already paid for, BTW). The parts department checked the computer and said there was still no number for the hood protector. I forwarded the e-mail to the parts manager and he said he would follow up and let me know. We shall see.
