06 Scion headunit

The standard 06 Scion HU says it has a mini-jack.
How do I add it?

the wiring for that comes built into the 06 scions, and is currently unavailable to buy, but a few people are working on putting it together over at scionlife.com
ill post more info when i hear more.

I'm waiting too. But what IS the difference if we use either the Scion mini jack which won't charge or control the iPod... or just use the US Spec? I'm starting to lean toward the US Spec. any input out there from people who have done either mod to make their iPod's work with their 'Runner?

I'm hoping the mini-jack is a lot cheaper and sound cleaner.
In the 06 HU, there should already be built-in hardware for an auxilary connection (front panel has a AUX button).

hmm... well on my old car ('81 BMW 320i) I have a Pioneer HU with AUX input... and in my sister's car ('02 BMW 325i) she has the BMW iPod input cable (the one that charges the iPod and plugs into dock connection for you who don't know) to the stock Harmon Kardon system... honestly... I don't hear a difference. I'd assume because both are hard wired directly into the respective HU's sound quality is nearly the same. but I did notice when you use AUX input in HU and mini jack on iPod it can get VERY loud and a little distorted because of the iPod's individual volume level. just some observations you should all know. :bigok:

does anyone know if the 3-knob 06 scion head unit with ipod capabilitiees will work in our 4runners?

i was on the scionlife forums and someone posted the following about it:

r0cky, make sure that your friend's car is a 2006, because the iPod feature won't work in the '04 or '05 Scions. The Color-change & knobs will of course work, but the iPod function requires a harness that is built into the '06 Scions @ the factory, the '04 & '05 Scions don't have the harness.

so, that's about scions of course, but does it also mean that our 4runners don't have the necessary "harness" to make the ipod feature work? in other words, does it make it so that there's no point in getting the 3-knob, ipod head unit instead of the regular cheaper one?
