I have on 06 V6 4runner with 60k. I pulled the valve covers off to check clearances and found intake clearances all in the middle of tolerance (0.008" or 0.009"). The exhaust clearances are all at the upper end of tolerances ( half at 0.014", half at 0.015").
I have tolerances as intake = 0.006" to 0.010" and exhaust = 0.011" to 0.015".
I measured the 0.015" gauge I'm using with a mic and it is actually 0.0154", so I guess technically some are a little bit over.
To clarify, clearances I've given are the last of the feeler gauges that will "go". A 0.015" clearance will allow the 0.015" feeler gauge to fit but will not allow the 0.016" gauge.
Has anyone tracked clearances over a longer interval? I'd expect that the valve-valve seat would wear faster than the cam-lifter (so clearance would decrease over time), but at these clearances I'm not so sure. I initially inspected this because it sounded like the valve train was a little loud, otherwise I wouldn't have messed with it. I'd hate to replace the lifters if they are going to wear toward the nominal values in the future anyways.
Anyone have any experience with this?
