08' 4runner sold to Toyota today. Your thoughts...

So being that gas prices has gone up I decided to put my 4runner on craigslist to see what kind of activity I would get. The next day I get a call from my local Toyota dealer saying he would give me $25,000, being curious I went down there to see if it was a real offer. Long story short, I sold my 08' 4runner for $25,000 to the dealer (cash for title/cut and dried), I was blown away!!!. I bought my 4runner for $19,900 private party about 1 year ago so I made a $5,100 profit. Is this normal for Toyota to do this? Ive always looked at dealerships to be rip offs... I would like to hear your thoughts on this price they paid? I almost feel like they got the best of me even though I know they didn't, im just shocked..

They may have had a buyer lined up? I know they had no 4th gens on the lot and they are very hard to find in my area right now.

Well try that with some other vehicle, it would have been the other way around. 4Runner rocks ! Funny thing, i have the same vehicle color, specs and was thinking of doing the same due to gas prices.

But, it was so hard for me to let it go, i decided to keep it.

I'm in Reno too, and have an '08 4Runner, 30K miles, same trim/options/condition as yours, plus an aftermarket Pioneer GPS head unit. Wasn't planning on selling mine, but for the right price...

The party that sold you the vehicle IMO undersold the vehicle. You're a winner there.

The Toyota dealership obviously had a buyer for it and might make a little profit from him/her.

I wouldn't feel bad even if they did sell the vehicle for more.. You made a tidy profit yourself. Wish I could sell mine and make $5K off it! I'm looking for an 08 but my wife likes this vehicle.

I bought a used '08 a couple weeks ago, and i can honestly say there were 3 partys interested in it, one of themmwas walking around it in the dealer lot while i was inside waiting for the sales guy who was getting the carfax info for me at the time. I immediately put $100 bill down and told him im first in line. If i dont buy it, i get it back but i dont like feelin pressure. He started the whole "well, theres clearly other people interested" bull crap, but when i puleed the c-note off the table, his attitude changed.

My point is these vehicles are in demand in my area, regardless of gas prices.

If imwere you, id go lookin for an '09 2-yr lease that just came in. Its the last year of the 4th gens, and last year of the V8's!

Dealers in my area are asking $30,000 for identical vehicles. They must be getting close to that because the stock is always changing. I'm sure the dealer is making a profit.

my locals used toyota dealer always seems to have 3 to 4 4th gens. they have a gorgeous salsa red xsp right now. (drive by everyday)

Seems nuts -- I paid $28.5K (before tax) for mine, new.

Was thinking about it today, and there really isn't anything that fits my needs for this vehicle better. A nicer-optioned Limited, or the rare '09 Trail model, or the Lexus GX, but the differences aren't really worth the additional $ I'd have to put into it. Since I've had mine since new, I know every inch of it, and nothing has gone wrong on it. (One exception: HVAC blower motor developed a whine/squeak; dealer replaced it under warranty.)

There is a shortage of good used vehicles right now. Everyone is holding on to them. They will give you good money on it so now is the time if you were thinking about it.
