08 jbl headunit in 03

Hey everyone,
I picked up an 08 synthesis head unit to replace my 03 unit that is acting up. I researched this before purchasing and the one post I found said it was a direct swap. That does not appear to be true in my case.

The 08 face is much wider than my 03 it basically is the size of te black area surrounding the radio here.

It looks like I could trim the black part of the bezel to allow the new radio to fit into the bezel.

Has anyone tried this? Or do I need a different bezel?

The 08 is a JBL?? (Synthesis), seeing your radio, it seems to me you don't have a JBL so I'm not sure it will work.

The 08 face is much wider......... does it look like it will/should mount flush with the surrounding bezel? IF so, yes, you will need a bezel (whole center trim).

I had a similar problem but reversed. I had the JBL bezel, but needed a bezel that fit non-JBL. Cost me something like $300 at partznet.com.

Unfortunately even though I wish it wasn't, it is the jbj. The markers are on the door grills but the stereo is apparently different than the newer style. It has the jbl amp, sub, 6 door, dash and 2 rear hatch speakers.

Mine is an early 2003 so maybe they changed something half way thorough?

My radio is recessed and the black section around the radio in the pic is the same basic shape and size as the 08 faceplate, which looks as though it would be flush instead if recessed into the dash.
