09 TE Not wanting to go in and out of 4wd

I pulled my boat out of the shop today then when I wen't to back up, I switched into 4H and nothing, the light just flashed. I drove forward a little and then tried to turn the switch again and it went into 4H but made a squealing noise then went in, sounded like it was coming from the black box on the back of the tcase. It does no want to come out of 4H either but if you move forward a little then try again it will, same for going in to 4H. It will not go into 4L at all. I have put the thing into 4wd maybe a couple handfuls of times since 09 so I do not see how it could be wore out, never has been offroad really. Anyone have any advice?

If you weren't in neutral, try it again standing still in neutral.

The owner's manual says to engage it routinely to keep this from happening which you which you haven't done. Try engaging and disengaging frequently now and see if the problem goes away.

Yes, I have always put it in neutral before switching it.

How often do you put it into 4wd? By others experience on the site it seems that it is use it or lose it. I try to switch mine in at least once a month to keep the parts in moving order. Hope you get it figured out

I've always had the best of luck engaging 4hi while rolling at roughly 20 mph, driving in a straight line. Just figured I'd throw that out there

Looks like I might have gotten lucky... After messing with it for about an hour, switching it in and out of 4hi to 4lo, it seems to have loosened it up and is now going into 4lo with no problems. Center diff is locking and unlocking also, not exactly positive about the rear diff as I have never locked that in, does not seem to want to lock. Also not sure what the RSCA button does as it is not in the manual.

All the RSCA button does is turn off the side curtain airbags, it's to keep them from deploying when off-roading where the vehicle might tilt enough to trigger them.
