So 32 hours later my truck was ready for pickup. Cool. Except the tech managed to put a scratch on the screen of the head unit. So now a head unit is on order and I have to bring it in again. Oh well. Bonus tho,, they turned the seatbelt chime off for me while hooked up to Techstream, no charge.

Luckily my dealer got the parts in yesterday. Left it with them for about 3-4hrs this morning and test drove the new Rav4 with my dad

2016 was the model year they switched airbags, if yours was manufactured late after the switch it will not be impacted. if you bought yours that late in 2016 there's a good chance it was after the airbag switch.



the recall is years old, the techs have been doing this for years now. the only new part is they have finally extended it to newer models. you're right that it doesn't fail right away, that's why they prioritized older vehicles and only extended into the newer models now. in other words, it's already been some years. people have died from shrapnel, there is no reason to wait to do this.

That is exactly why they should state which VINs are not going to be recalled. If they know they made a change in the supplier they should tell us

When I got to the dealer yesterday they said they'd have the truck back to me in about two hours. In reality it was more like six hours. At least it's done and everything seems to have been put back together correctly without any new scratches being added to my interior. Hope others have a quicker turnaround.

when I purchased my 2016 runner I knew these air bags were a issue .. so I asked the sales guy ..HE said YES this air bag will be replaced in a few years .. so IMO , I will wait till the summer and have them do the job . all vehicles are a bit different . so I hope they will not F up the replacement ... perhaps just sign off the job , but did nothing .

IN a tropical climate with high humility 100% of the time these air bags did blow off killing and injuring people .. well in my cold NE 100% humidity never happens 100% of the year perhaps several days .

Anyone know the repair procedure here? Does the radio have to come out? Those of us with aftermarket radios might have concerns because it certainly took some careful finagling to get everything placed behind the radio. If the radio has to come out, it might be easier to remove it before taking to the dealer.

So, does anybody know how all of this works. Can they access the bag through the glove box, or are they pulling the entire dash?

I had mine done on my 2011 today. I dropped it off at 8:09 this morning, and the paper work shows completed by 10:08. I got the call at 10:15ish, so it was exactly 2 hours.

As far as what work was done, I'm not sure. I know the contents of my center console was moved, so they must have had to get in there.

I didn't notice any additional scratches or anything, and looks like it was put back together properly, but it also has 129,000 miles and there is more than just a few scratches inside so it would be hard for me to tell.

2016 SR5 premium in OR. Mine made the list. Getting it changed out next Friday.

Yes, i read a while ago that the more hot/humid the environment is, the faster the airbag stuff will get messed up, so those zones will be up first for recall.

Issue is that they go by where the 4r was sold, not by where it is at now, at least that was the issue from last time a read a few years ago.

I am not on the list, yet I live in Miami, but bought my 4r in Virginia.

I cannot imagine how long it will take the dealers here in Miami to replace this, it takes them two hours just to do an oil change, lol.

I am just hoping they not mess up the interior in some way, I do not want some giant marks or something in it.

Just got mine done this morning. Under 2 hours and no interior scratches or issues. Great job by North Hills Toyota in Pittsburgh.

My dealer sucks. Took mine in yesterday, only to get a call an hour later telling me the part isn't there after confirming late last week it was. So, I have to go back later this week.

That sucks man! It's a crapshoot nowadays with customer service and/or basic competence.
