1 Deer too Many!

I have hit 4 deer over the past 2 years and have had enough! Seems as if they pop up out of nowhere. My insurance company is probably wondering why!

Based on driving predominantly 2 lane roads, what recommendations would you give to provide greater visability for both close in and distance sightings of the deer in advance before they become dinner!

Get a good light bar. I've seen deer jump off the road a 1/4mi away running my 20" OnX6. I don't have my ditch lights up and running yet, but I've heard great things about seeing more wildlife than they ever knew was near the road by people who run theirs.

my brother in law hit a deer, on the way back from the body shop after getting it fixed. A deer tried to jump his car and came in through the sun roof. he turned around and went back to the body shop...

Definitely lights, I have ditch lights and I call them my "deer spotting lights" I have them angled along the line of the hood about 45 deg angles out from my view and they have helped me see dozens of deer on the sides of the roads before they jumped out in front of me. I have deer jump out in front of me almost daily but thanks to being able to see them I have never hit one. Came close and been sideways a few times, but haven't hit one yet

My Grandfather, Dad and Uncle make several hunting trips a year around the country, so my Uncle built a dedicated hunting rig. Its a 2002 Ford Excursion (diesel). It has front and rear steel bumpers coated in line-x, along with many other modifications.

Long story short, we've hit multiple deer. Usually hit one every year, sometimes every other year. Truck has always sustained minimal damage and has never left us stranded. The front bumper literally throws deer into the ditch!

HID's in the low beam projectors, and something that provides a wider angle to light up the ditches. The wide angle solution could be in the fog light spot if you want to keep things low-key, the Baja Designs Sport wide angle would probably do the trick, but they are something you'd need to shut off when oncoming traffic is approaching as they are way bright.

Seems like lighting up the night with a bunch of LED pods would actually make the problem worse. i.e deer in the headlights. Lights are good for spotting a deer but not sure for repelling a deer. Best thing is to drive as little as possible at night on country roads.

I saw a lady in a parking lot with a dented bumper that had a similar type of whistle to this on it on both sides. I asked her what happened. Hit a deer.

Good advice! Plus nothing is more dangerous and annoying for oncoming traffic than a light bar being used on public roads. A close second is guys who lift there f-250 6 inches and don't adjust the headlights.

There's also speculation that the deer whistles could cause a deer to run in front of you that otherwise would have stayed in the field.

Full steel bumper is the best bet. At this point you could probably talk your insurance into paying for it, like preventative care.

It might help to adjust your driving times (if you can) as most deer - car collisions are around dusk and dawn times. Sure they can leap out at anytime; but I think you can put the odds in your favor if you can avoid those time frames.

I hit one deer around midnight several years ago. It took off leaving me with a crumpled bumper. I bought one online and fixed it myself.

Steel bumper to protect the rad and cooling system so you don't get stranded and making sure you're comfortable with panic braking and keep her on the road.

Better lighting in your existing housings is your best bet. Sure, you can run a bunch of auxiliary lights but they’re not legal on the road and you best shut them down when you see a hint of a car coming.

Then what happens when you shut down your sweet array of auxiliary lighting? You’re left with your existing lighting. See previous paragraph.

Steel bumpers are great but escape and avoidance are your best bets to avoid this issue. Be adept at both.
