Overkill? Nah. They do things right in the Land of Downunder...

My wife watches every nature show. Here's what she says about deer.

1. Deer have poor eyesight. 20/100 vision. This means that the level of detail whitetails see at 20 feet is what normal human vision can see back to 100 feet.

2. The "deer in the headlights" look is real. Deer actually can see better than humans in the dark due to having a lot of rods. However, their brain can't process the car light and their brain is legitimately frozen/overloaded and that's why they just stand there. More lights helps you but is worse for them.

Some brands like BMW have started to offer deer notification systems (probably LIDR based?). The comments I've seen about them say they don't always work but sometimes do.

Very interesting Kohai, thanks for the info.....tell the better half thanks too! Makes sense on the reasoning you say why they freeze.....My collisions had the deer racing across the road.....I think properly aimed ditch lights would have helped in some cases but not all. In 50% of my cases, better lighting would not have helped due to oncoming traffic, cant blind the other driver.

Nick, The_Green_Wang you have a badass truck! Love that bumper. For sure Nick, if you can hit the brakes hard then a tap won't make much difference. The stock bumpers can't take much. I was on the PA Turnpike last year and had a huge gobbler fly down off the roost and lit 10 feet in front of me while I was doing 70! Yikes, that was a $4000 repair job.

Might just be my luck I guess. All these collisions were with my old 2011 SR5P.....I got a TRD ORP last September, so. I'd like to keep it nice for a while! My 2011 had only a few mods.....this one may have a bunch! We'll see!

Thanks, guys!

20164runner it is from RCR4WD, a Venezuelan fabrication company.
Bugser that's unfortunate and hope you were okay! Yeah, if the deer jumps out last second, there really isnt much that can be done. Wonder maybe the whistle things could prevent that? Glad you got yourself a new 4runner! Start fresh and enjoy the little things :) will look forward to hour build [emoji16]
