100,000 miles and about to head to CO from WA

I have spend the past 6mo driving up and down Mt. Rainier in my 05 Runner 6cyl SR5. Just passed the 100,000 mile mark and am about to drive myself and all my gear (UHaul trailer included) up to Vail, CO. I need some help on maintenance. What is needed, what's a good idea to do, and what I can skip.


I haven't towed with it yet but will have a 5x10 trailer this time with my life packed into it for the drive.

Planned Maintenace:

(Suggested by manufacturer)
Tighten nuts/bolts on chassis
Inspect ball joints/dust covers
Inspect drive shaft boots
Inspect steering linkage and boots
Lubricate and re-torque propeller shaft

(Seems like a good idea)
Rear differential flush
Coolant Flush + Refill
Spark plugs/wires
Water pump

I might need new front brakes and a few lights are out but the above list is all the tune up I'm planning for the moment. I plan to leave the transmission alone untill something starts to feel out of place.

Any ideas of what to add/remove from the list and how much I might be paying if all done at dealer or another service dept?

The philosophy I've always had is to keep my truck maintained at all times. That means keeping up on maintenance, inspect vehicle for signs of wear periodically, and when thing crop up take care of them immediately before they become BIG problems.

My 4runner now has 180k miles on it...and I wouldn't hesitate to take a 5k trip on the spur of the moment.

I agree with the manufacturer suggestions....

The "Seems like a good idea" really depends on when those things were last preformed. Plugs will also depend on what type you've been using. And there are no plug wires on this vehicle (it's a distributorless system). I wouldn't replace the water pump unless it's showing signs of needing replacing.

I'd be more concerned about the brakes and lights then anything else. Address those FIRST.

1k is a cake walk. I used to cross country trips in beaters, that I am honestly amazed, I made it in.
