10mpg ???? Normal?

Hi,

I just changed engine oil, and ATF flush. All run great. But i have around 10 mpg. What can be the problem? No gas smell at all.
I'm driving in the city, 10 to 20 mph a lot do idling also but is this can kill the gas milage like this!???

From the description of your driving conditions, that could be perfectly normal.

I have a short commute to work, about 3.5 miles through town. I get roughly 13mpg. I recently took a 400 mile round trip vacation and averaged almost 21mpg, so it drastically depends on driving habits.

I live in Tempe as, about a mile from Arizona state, I think they enrolled about 80,000 students this year, with all of those kids driving there is constant stop and go, and they are always doing construction, I've never gotten below 15 in the city, the only time I've gotten lost than that was a really long off road trail. Also make sure you aren't in 4wd or something, a few things you can do to get more economy is the spark plugs, the fuel filter, check the alignment, tire pressure. Also if you know you are going to be sitting for a few minutes just turn the engine off and shift into neural, as long as you keep your foot on the brake no one can even tell, some cars now do this automatically.

I changed the Spark plugs I think 6000 miles ago! Replaced by the OEM NKG spark plug.

Can a old fuel filter affect the milage like this? If I turn this into Kilometers, my car is around 18 to 20Liters/100. This is how a Good condition Hummer drink normally! haha

Is this a new phenomena? What mpg's have you recorded previously? Just wondering if this is something that has been getting worse or has it been that bad and you are looking for a cure? Short commute with A/C going will eat up a lot of gas.

make sure the A/C isn't on.
Make sure you are not in 4wd.
Check all your tire Pressures./ Get an Alignment.
Put a new Air Cleaner in.
Clean the MAF.
Change your PCV Valve.
Change your fuel filter.
Grease your drive shaft u-joints.
try some seafoam down the Vac. lines and gas lines. (works wonders)
Make sure your Brakes or Hand Brake isn't sticking.
New o2's don't hurt either.

all of these things put together can really equal a great improvement in gas mileage.
