12' step ladder on roof rack.

Renting a 12' step ladder to install some new ceiling fans in my house with high vaulted ceilings. I was thinking of strapping it to the stock roof rack on the T4R. Anyone tried to secure something this big on their stock 4R racks?

I put a christmas tree on mine every year...2 ratchet straps and you're good.

Sure, just make sure you align it front-to-back, to minimize it sticking out too far forward or backward. Also widen out your bars as far as they'll go.

Whenever I ratchet anything on, I usually use 3: 2 laterally and one wrapped length-wise. The third is mostly if something gets loose it keeps it attached up there rather than sliding through a loose strap and falling off.

Shouldn't be a problem, if properly secured. Just be sure to cross-tie the ladder to the crossbars, so it doesn 't want to slide forward or backward on you. Just running ratchet straps across the top won't be enough to keep it from sliding when braking or accelerating quickly.

I done this before and had no issues. Strapped it down with ratchet straps. The cross bar would flex a bit as you tighten down the straps.
