12 volt tap question

I'm installing neon blue underglow for the footwells of my 4Runner as well as changing out the cupholder lights to a more visable blue l.e.d. light. On the vehicle prior to my previous I did this. I did so by tapping into the 12volt power outlet (cig lighter) and used the same power and ground to run my neons and that outlet, which I only ever use to charge my cell (..if that matters.)
Is it ok to do this on my 4Runner?
I was even thinking on hooking it up wayy in the back off that rear outlet in the trunk. I haven't decided which spot to go from.. IF it's ok to do so.

I wouldn't tap into the 12v outlet to run your neons. You may overtax the wiring and blow some fuses that way. You said you've done this on another vehicle so go ahead and do it on the 4Runner, it's your truck.

Open the center console and you can pull the trim around the shifter up. This will give you access to the 12v plug wiring.

I'd run the power from the battery, but that's just me.

You are fine running the neon off that same power outlet circuit! Most neons come with a 12V plug on them anyway, so you can easily cut that off and wire it into the same circuit. Blowing a fuse is not that big of a deal... fuses blow all the time. They are designed to protect the circuit and the wiring. If the circuit can't handle the load of the neon, then fuse will blow.

Running to the battery is a waste of time for a neon.

Yeah, they do come with 12v plugs but I have to snip them off. I'll wire it all up tonight, then hide the wiring tomorrow. Thanks for the quick responses.
