You sure have some clean 4Runners sir. I really dig your 1st gen.
It's an amazing thing how well these trucks hold up over the years. Someday we'll all be using that old line: "They just don't build 'em like they used to".

Yeah, you definitely still have to take care of them. Especially if you're in an area that receives a lot of direct sunlight. I wax mine every spring and fall with the fall wax also getting a buff.
OP, the ride looks great. Black just looks so sexy when it shines like that!

That one probably didn't get the same care that 93toy is giving his.
In fact, I'd wager that truck saw a good measure of neglect during it's life.
I haven't waxed my '97 once in the 5+ years I've owned it... with a quick wash it shines up great. With a buff/wax I bet it would mirror up quick.

It's funny when you think about how Toyota built them. Not many parts that suffer the elements. No plastic headlights to fade (see Jeep Grand Cherokees from the same time period), no plastic unpainted body side cladding to fade (see Ford Explorer/Excursion from the same time period), etc.
Take care of the paint and try to protect weatherstrip and you're set!
Thanks for the kind words on the 1985. Tyrone was feeling a little neglected today. Feels like spring is here so he'll get detailed soon.

Thanks! A buddy of mine (username 02-Sport) just bought a Thundercloud Gray 02 Sport and I LOVE that color! But then I got done with mine today and fell in love with the black all over again. Just can't beat it when it's right!

I usually do it twice per year, and only use NuFinish. I know it's just a polish, but there is something in that stuff, that makes the truck shine, and will make it bead for months! It's like it adds a clear coat on it!
Anyway, back on topic.... I've seen these rigs posted somewhere before.... maybe on the 1st Gen section??? Eitherway, both are beautiful man!

Thanks! Since I detail for $$ on my days off, my vehicles are the guinea pigs for combos/products. Today was actually all Meguiars with the Porter Cable. Turned out nice.
No pollen here yet, but I imagine it will hit this week.

Correct! It has been posted in the 1st gen section before with my 85.
And I think you're right, people don't give vehicle finishes half the care they need. Good thing clearcoat finishes were ever introduced. Any of you old timers like me remember how paints used to fade when everything was single stage? Remember what silvers and golds would do!?! Black is a commitment. People see it on the lot or in the showroom and think "Ooooh, pretty", but they never realize how much work it is to keep it looking that way. It's not impossible, but a trip throught the Auto Bell twice a year won't cut it.

The clearcoat issue happened before I even knew what a 4Runner was. I still hand wax it once every 2 months.

Bravo, for nothing is as hard to correct and make look clean as black. Chasing swirls and holograms can be aggravating to say the least.
Try some Sonax Paint Cleaner sometime in the future. It works well on this soft paint (3rd gen at least).
Hopefully the pollen will miss ya, not here in the OBX outlying areas unfortunately.

Pollen is in FULL force in Atlanta. My black expedition s yellow, silver runner is yellow, and yellow Dakota is, well yellow.
