13wl Upgrade, bled/new adjusted shoes...still horrible pedal

Well, it stops better... Pedal still feels shitty and drops down... Then again it is the original master with 300k. Where can I find info on what master I should get and if a booster is required. From what I am to understand the 4runner master is single stage and the Tundra is dual?

Should be this one:47201-3D380 - OEM Toyota CYLINDER SUB-ASSY, B

Overhaul kit is this:04493-30232 - OEM Toyota PISTON KIT, BRAKE MA

and here is your booster (ouch!): 44610-3D700 - OEM Toyota BOOSTER ASSY, BRAKE

or NAPA for half the price:NAPA AUTO PARTS

Sorry, I guess I was a litle vauge. As far as an upgraded one over the stock 4runner one, I will eventually be putting rear disc on it as well...want to wait and see if the axle seal holds...

The whole reason behind upgrading the brakes, and doing suspension work after I rebuilt the motor is because I am about to throw the supercharger on it, then URD and possibly water meth...lackluster stock brakes and worn suspension components would have been a recipe for unintended custom metal remodeling

Update: Now I'm just confused and frustrated...after all the bleeding last night, the pedal still felt like crap. This morning I didn't notice any change, then again there was snow/ice on the ground and I wasn't paying attention.

Got in the truck at lunch and the pedal felt amazing, just as firm as it should be, no drop of the pedal and it was stopping like it should. Was extremely surprised, but didn't understand. Felt great all day, did some running around after work with my better half and when I backed in the garage I noticed a burning smell, so did she. Got to looking and found that the left drum was very hot to the touch where the right was dead cold. Picked up the rear end and found the left very hard to move, where the right was easy. Keep in mind I just adjusted them 2 days prior. I backed off the left and adjusted the right up to where both would turn about 1 revolution before stopping, just dragging. Drove it again, now the pedal is back to crap. What gives? :ybrick:

I checked to make sure the star adjuster's would not loosen up by themselves by trying to turn it down, the wouldn't move unless I pressed in the tab.

What would make it come out of adjustment like that? They are new shoes and wheel cylinders, but damn. I despise drum brakes, and this makes it me hate them that much more. Am I correct in saying if I do the rear disc conversion that a different master cylinder is pretty much required? If so, I may just have to bite the bullet and put one on...just have to figure out which one. I really don't want to have to replace the booster too, since it is working fine and boosters are outrageous.

I read some posts about a chevy one that would that would work with a bracket, but haven't researched it further yet...

Any direction here would be awesome...grabbing at straws

I don't know why your having these problems. My brake system was exposed for month. Hooked everything back up, bleed it and brakes were back to normal.

You didn't accidentally switch your left and right side drum brake components?

No sir, just pulled the drums off and left them on their side, replaced the shoes and cylinders and put her back together

Any chance you let the MC go dry while bleeding? If so, there is a procedure for bleeding the MC on the truck, then you need to rebleed the brakes themselves. This happened to me the first time. I didn't realize the MC reservoir had two compartments and either can go dry and let air in.

Post back if you want the procedure; it's in my '99 paper FSM, but does not apply to the later models with VSC etc. so not in the on-line FSM.

That's two times in two days I came in to post the same thing you already had. Cheers sir.
