I heard that the 18'' magnaflow is mostly quiet and only gets loud at high rpms.(correct me if i'm wrong, i want to know). I wanted something a little louder (no flowstoppers 40,50,etc series) so I thought the shorter 14'' magnaflow muffler would be better. Will this muffler be too loud? The dimensions of the muffler are in the title. Thanks.

While i fully empathize with the person in the story, i think maybe that particular muffler model is bad. The v.p is definitely a jerk though. But plenty of people have magnaflows on their 4runner. That was the first time I heard a story like that. I'm going through with it, though I'm gonna keep my stock muffler so I can have something to go back to. (I'm also a college student with limited budget)

14" will be loud.. i have heard maganflows on the 3.4 and its not bad by any means but definitely a head turner.. i've done a lot of research for mufflers on the 34's and i would for sure for sure go with the cherry bomb vortex.. 70 bucks on amazon and sounds awesome, check youtube for sound clips.

The 18" is perfect IMO. I think that the 14" would be too loud for my liking. But what you consider too loud and what I consider too loud could be completely different.
well, does the 18" sound nice in the cabin at everyday driving speeds? like from 1800-2500ish rpm? thats really what i want...im not looking for flowmaster 40 series type obnoxious loud. just a somewhat noticeable deep humm/tone. youtube is good, but u just can't get that accurate of an impression. the 18" sounded very quiet so thats why i prob leaned towards the 14". in reality the camera may not have got the full sound of the 18".

I believe the 14" magnaflow will probably be obnoxious & give you excessive in-cab drone. I would definitely go 18" if you want everyday comfort while driving.
I agree that youtube clips don't give the best results, especially when talking about exhaust. But I think the youtube video by Sutherncomfort gives a pretty good exterior sound clip of the 18".

It's not quiet. From what you've said, I really think that the 18" will be perfect for you. Mine isn't really loud, but you definitely hear it. Maybe Hepar will chime in; I think he has the 14" on his 'Runner.
This isn't my truck, but it's the same exact muffler.

This. I just bought a Vortex last week, $71 to my door from Amazon. I did a lot if research first and listen to a ton of sound clips. I think the Vortex is a nice compromise of aggressive sound without being obnoxious. But, I had to replace mine out if necessity. My stock muffler is shot.

I have a 14" magnaflow. on my truck. Been on there for years with no issues. Its not very loud at all. NO DRONE on the highway at all. Its only loud when your really smashing the gas.
I absolutely love it. Perfect IMO. I cannot hear it on the freeway and that is a big plus for me. I hate exhaust that you can hear all the time.
I cut the last 2 feet off my exhaust too and it didnt really change the sound. However i did manage to get a rock to put some dents in it and it sound a little different than it use to. I say go for it.

Well guys, last night the site was down/hacked. I didn't think any replies were gonna come for a while so I got up this morning and went to get thsi done. I got the 14'' and it is a little louder than I thought it would be, but I actually kinda like it. It is quiet at highway speeds and only gets loud when you put your foot down. The drone is there, but minimal. The 18'' might have been what I was looking for, but ehh this fine too. The muffler cost me $60 and installation cost me $60. I'll post a youtube video if there needs to be one...I think there are plenty...but not many with the 14''. Thanks for the help guys.
