$140 for installation of new Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS

Hi Forum,

Originally, I planned to install a Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS into my 06 4runner to replace the stock JBL. There was a stereo shop near my house which quoted me for $140 to install the system.

Is it reasonable? I am debating to install it myself or have the shop does it for me.

I got the installation documentations from Crutchfield and it doesn't look too hard for me. I just afraid of the "gotcha" during the installation.

Please advise if you already installed it yourself.

$140 isn't too bad if they are going to set up the JBL amp harness, and steering wheel controls. Also see if they plan on using solder and shrink tube, or just snowcaps (plastic crimps) on the wiring. I just installed a similar unit a couple weeks ago in mine and it is easy if you can follow instructions and not wander off too much.

I don't know much about the JBL install but I would suggest doing a bit of research on the forums here and giving it a go on your own. I knew nothing of car audio prior to my install and feel a lot more comfortable with it now that I did it on my own. Plus it's a real satisfying thing knowing you did it yourself!

If you got everything from crutchfield try it on your own. I'm about to as well. Plus they give you tech support in case you get stuck since you bought it from them.

Do it your self,worst you can do is mess it's up and cost you more......consider it the cost of learning.if not don't question cost of some ones skill,if you're not happy about his price then seek out his previous work and see if it's worth his asking price,if not move along.

$140 is a fair price, but I always do radios myself

The heardest part is taking everything out to get there, make sure to get a harness, then you can sit inside and connect up all the wires, go out to the car and plug it right into the factory harness. Makes it much easier than effing around under the dash.

if your getting everything from crutchfield including JBL harness and steering control. $140 is high! (do it yourself)

If your just buying the radio with no harnesses from crutchfield, and need JBL and steering control, $140 is a good price. (do it yourself anyway)

I did it

I finished the installation of the Pioneer yesterday. Everything worked (with an *) and the fitment of the kit was perfect.

It was an easy installation. I used the notes from T4r.org and Crutchfield. I called Crutchfield for tech support and they were very friendly. From the difficulty scale 1 to 10. I gave it a 5. I just took my time and enjoy the work.

*Note: I have to remove the system out of the dash in couple days because I need to adjust the SWI dip switches # 1,2, and 3 to increase the volume. Crutchfield tech said that the factory default to have the volume NOT to the max to "protect" the OEM factory amp. By default, the volume was about 75% of the max.

yes crutchfield gives you everthing you need to install whatever radio you buy from them. But I find it significantly cheaper to source the radio and all the parts from ebay, amazon or other websites. I usually just use crutchfield or sonicelectronix for part numbers.
