15 limited, looking for sliders that function like a step

As the descriptive title suggests. Wife has a new 15 limited, she really likes the look of the stock running boards but I would rather have the protection of sliders. I have looked online and see a few options, what is your experience for the most step like sliders, options, prices, quality? Any experience would be helpful, I have small children so a flat step would probably work best. TIA!

I put Metal Tech OPOR sliders on my Limited and love them. My 7 year old son can easily get in the back now and they look sweet. :roll:

Edit: also no trimming or removal of trim needed for them to fit.

Check out Slee Off-road. Their step slider would seem to meet your requirements.

Shrockworks has a model that functions great as a step. Long lead time, though. Be aware that you may have to remove or trim the rocker panel on the LE to work with some of the sliders.

Neither shrockworks or Slee will fit without removing (or cutting) the LE rocker panels, you can easily replace them with the Trail edition for a price of course.

Check out Demello bolt on hybrids. I like mine and if you need plates on top, I think Jason can accommodate. Almost any sliders will require removal of some trim on the Ltd.

I also just put these on my limited. They do work as a step, but they don't work as well for entry or reaching the roof rack as the running boards that were on my 2006. We have a dog with bad arthritis and she could jump in the 2006 using the running boards, but now needs to be lifted in.

So far, everyone that got to experience entry/exit before and after the install find it easier with them.

On previous vehicles, not having sliders would limit where I'd go, so for me, the protection was more important than making entry/exit easier for others.

You could also have a set custom built. On my previous 4runner I built a set using 2x3 square tube that matched closely the look of the factory running boards. It would be pretty easy to do the same for the 5th gen. If your fabricator is willing to do so and you want to spend the $ you can make them fit the factory end plastic trim pieces and it could all look stock, but be much stronger. I custom did mine with a profile at the ends to match the body lines, but you could have something like this that is just set out further with more shelf to stand on.

I got mine today and installed on a '14 Trail. Look great.

If you order the trim pieces at the time of ordering your sliders, Schrockworks will provide them for free. Lead-time was 4 months but worth it.
