15 MPG City..

Should i be concerned seeing 15 MPG all city driving. My 2014 4runner is stock with 2k mi on it. My wife does have a heavy foot but not race car heavy. Thinking I should be seeing atleast 17. Anyone else avg close to 15?

Yup, that's about right if you get on it at all. Hand calculated 15.8 at last fill-up. Once I got past the initial 1000 miles, MPGs went way down cause I started to drive it like I normally drive. Mostly around town driving for me. I might be taking a trip in the next few days and I'm looking forward to see what I get on the highway.

By no means do I drive my car with a lead foot but I average 15mpg as well with a little over 3000 miles. Stop and go is killer on these poor gear ratio heavy suvs and winter gas doesn't help. I also only get 17mpg on long trips but that's also because I set cruise around 80, and these trucks are bricks. When I go on short local trips at around 65 mph I see around 20mpg. Although I would like to see better mpg, I didn't buy the 4Runner with that in mind. Much better vehicles for that. Even my S5 destroys the 4runner in mpg and I drive that way harder than the 4Runner.

I was getting 20.5 all hwy going to Phoenix Az from Long Beach, CA ... but this was on fresh oil and stock tires

14.9-15MPG 90% city driving. Pretty all during morning traffic, lunch traffic, and going home traffic.

sounds about right I get 16 to 19 depending on weather, traffic and how much of a hurry I'm in

Well, if you compare to gas prices 3 or 4 months ago, you're getting 21+mpg if that makes you feel any better.

That kind of fuel economy is not unusual this time of year but your variables are vague. What does "heavy foot" and what does "city" mean? Acceleration at 2500rpm, or 4000? Etc

15 trail with stock size duratracs and Ive got 17.9 average over the first 1500 miles. 500 of that was a road trip from mi to tn, other than that all city. I do have an afe CAI but most say those make no difference. I've just always put them on my cars.

seems low buts not unreasonable assuming your wife is a real hot rodder. I get ~16mpg city with a lift and KM2/s which are about equivalent to wooden wheels on a medieval catapult...........doesn't matter much at 2$/Gal fuel

Thanks for all your replys guys. good to know its nothing to be worried about ; i've read other threads of ppl avg 18/19 and was thinking something is wrong.. I'm about to do a lift and tires and make my MPG even better.

I get 14.X to 15.Y mpg for city. I don't even drive my 4runner like my Honda s2000... I'm usually trying to keep the ECO green light lit.

I've come to the conclusion the 4runner is very heavy. It also has the aerodynamics of a door.

Also I saw my MPG drop from 20ish on the highway to 12 MPG with 5 mountain bikes on the roof rack, 5 adults and going up and down costal highways trying to keep 60mph. YIKES!
