Logically and realistically you are correct. Here's the deal though: We have this document called the Constitution which, to all intents and purposes, is the rule book for our great nation. Good or bad, right or wrong, this is what we have. When the constitution was written, they wanted a separation of church and state, so our government (and lawyers) have thrown common sense out the window in many decisions to try to keep the two apart. There is no amendment for separation of sex and state lol. A lot has changed since that document was written and while I personally think it should continue to be used as the final say there probably needs to be a few more amendments added to reflect change in society as time rolls on.
I am not a medical or psychological guy (dumb engineer) but I will give you my views and maybe it might give a few of you a reason to go "Hmmmm."
Who is to blame for the increasing number of teens having sex? You would think that it has something to do with poor parenting, the changing and degradation of morals, increasingly racier shows on TV or video games and technology but I think it is something much more basic and simple. The answer? Nutrition. Why nutrition? Here you go:
Forget for a moment that girls as young as 12 were having babies back in cave man times. That's too far back and a lot of genetic markers have mutated since then. Let's go back a few hundred years as I consider this to be "modern" times. Right now the average age of a girl's first period is around 12 years old. In the 1800's it was 17 years old. the reason for the huge change is simple nutrition. Today we are much more healthy than they were back then which gives our kids a "jump start" on growth (and reaching puberty) and along with growth comes the changes from child to adult.
So armed with that knowledge you would think that girls would have their first child earlier right? Wrong! In 1970 the average age of a first time mother was 21.3 years old in the US. Now it is 25.4 years old. Yes, the number of teens having babies is increasing but apparently the number of women waiting to have kids until later is increasing at a faster pace. Remember that kids have no desire to have sex until their body changes during puberty. We have made everyone more healthy over the last 100 years or so, which makes girls have their first periods at an earlier age and boys get larger and start puberty earlier and...well, they want to have sex earlier too. I think the increasing age of having their first child going up has to do with birth control more so than anything else.
So what does all this mean? I don't know but I have thought about this subject just a little lol.

Thai, you ignored my question. Do you think education and abstinance would help? In a perfect world that would work, but as we know this isnt a perfect world and teenage girls all over ignore these two things for natural instincts.

Should be for 18+yrs. people need to teach there kids about responsibility and allow the child to feel comfortable about talking to their parents about anything. And if the child is sexually active it should be the parents choice to allow the child to take the pill. Quit thanking the choices from the parents then try to blame the parents for how the kids turn out.

Sorry, you lost my respect when you equate snot from your nose to a fetus. I am not all pro-life (kinda in middle), but what you wrote earlier is plain retarded and shows your total lack of understanding. It was rather shocking to read what you wrote and think that it came from someone with a thought process more advance than a tadpole.

I think it makes sense and is likely very valid. I can attest to part of it in that I live 2 blocks from our local HS and I take my golden back there on their fields very often (obviously ignoring the signs not to). I often see our middle school 12 year old girl soccer players out there that are as big as me, are highly athletic, and can kick a ball through a brick wall..... and there's 3 or 4 of them on the team that are this size..... not just the 1 exceptional kid.
Glad I have 2 boys.

Of course other factors come into play like bad parents, peer pressure and decline of morals in society. Getting to the deeper root cause though is tough. I did tons of research and while you probably won't find my position touted many places I think it is fairly accurate. The reason pundits won't go down this road? Truth has no benefit to either side in a political and emotionally charged subject such as teen sex and offshoots like the Plan B drug.
You are a doc right? Does the premise make sense?

If your kids are NEAR perfect then great. Sadly so many in the US are not and don't always listen to their parents.
The government NOT preventing the legal sale of condoms or the Plan B pill does not hurt your kids. It just means that other people's kids get access.
I am always amazed by people who so badly want to stop big government or scream about the government but on issues like this WANT the government to block/outlaw items from sale which have been determined to be safe.
On issues like this I'm more libertarian leaning -sorry.

I just want to know why you need training and a permit to... drive a car, get married, get some jobs, get divorced, carry a self defense weapon, buy a car, buy a home, own a business... but creating a dependent life form is a free for all.

Your getting way off track over one comment. I think your problem is you have nothing to refute the oppositions side so instead you resort to picking apart one comment to try and make your side of the argument more appealing.
