16" option or not

Not sure how to tell if my 2000 4Runner is factory 16" or not. As you know, the Toyota distributors did a lot of the upgrades after arriving in the US versus factory. The sticker on the door lists 15" but I have the larger body colored fender extensions, factory 16" wheels and all the parts I have purchased so far have been for 16" (rotors, pads, rear wheel cylinder, rear shoes...). I'm going to be doing the seals/bearings soon and would like to have a higher level of comfort knowing which I have. Do any parts have part# stamped on them so I could cross-reference?

it sounds like its a limited model....those should come factory with 16" wheels

Sorry, should have said its a SR5 with aftermarket leather (ClassicSoft). Just not sure how to be sure if everything on it is based on 16" or 15"

Look at the tires, the number after the R is your rim size.

There are many parts that are different depending on if the T4R had 15" or 16" wheels from the factory. What I'm asking is, is there a definitive way to know if the suspension and driveline parts on the vehicle follow the 15" or 16" wheel option regardless of what the sticker on the door says or what the actual rim size that is on the vehicle now. I have 16" but the sticker refers to 15" and I've put parts on based on it being 16" and don't *seem* to have issues. Rotors for example are different part numbers if your vehicle came with 15" vs 16". If it came originally with 15" and someone put 16" on later, that doesn't mean that the part number for rotors now follows the 16" part number. Hope that my question makes sense...

Just went and looked at mine real quick, said 16 on the door jamb and has 16's. My guess would be that since it says 15 on the door jamb, that'd be what components are underneath it.

You would think that but I've replaced front rotors, calipers, rear pads, rear wheel cylinder (at different times) and I bought them all assuming 16" option... I believe vehicles that are through Southeast Toyota Gulf States Toyota distributors are a bit strange.

This is what I have run across numerous times. I used to order a LOT of Toyota parts when I was in a body shop in Dallas, and it was a nightmare because the vin and build sheet said one thing, but the vehicle did not have those parts on it.

For example, my 99 Highlander says it has 15" wheels and 225/75/15 tires from the factory, however as we all know, the Highlanders came with 265/70/16's and 5 star wheels.

Well in that case, you might as well just get the Tundra brakes so save yourself the headache!:roll:
