16" wheel 4th gen

Anyone running these? After my research, I learned that some 16's won't fit over some SE and Limited because of the bigger brakes. The one I'm getting is just your regular SR5.

So, with that being said, just wanted to see if anyone is running 16s, and if there is a huge difference between a 16 and 17....besides tire cost, and more sidewall protection.

thx. :)

Not really sure, my 04 had 17's and I picked up another factory 17 for off road tires to swap as needed. My 08 now has 16" also, and the 17's fit also.

I have 16s. I think they look better than the 17" sr5/limited wheels. Also paying on average 15% less per tire is a huge bonus.

What size tire did you put on them? Right now I have 265/75's on a 16X7.5. Going to try to stuff them on stock.

I've been running 16's on my limited it was an early enough year model that it didnt come with the sport brakes. If you take a tape measure and measure across the rotor diameter. If your tape reads about about 12 1/2 inches you have the smaller brakes and will have no problem running 16's

I will say they're more tire size's available for a 17in wheel as it has become a truck rim size standard. But yes the wheels available for the 16's have been slightly cheaper.

side wall protection difference your talking 1/2 an inch difference between the two so its really up to you and want you want on your rig.

I run the stock size 265/70 Michelin ATX. I believe the 265/75 will fit fine but your speedometer and MPG measurements are going to read incorrectly.

I have an 07 Limited V6. Anyone know if 16s would fit? Or is it totally dependant on the brake package the original owner purchased with the vehicle?

Theres a stamping on the back side of the caliper, wither WG, WL, or WH. The WH calipers are for the big brakes that were standard on sport and optioned on limited.

See this post for some good info on the brake upgrade, which will tell you a bit more on the calipers: 4th Gen Brake Upgrade Glock_19 by Ducmonsta

If it were me, I would just stick with a 17" unless you really like a certain set of 16s. You may choose later down the line to upgrade to the slightly bigger brakes, which won't work with 16". Also most people here are running 17", so its more likely you'll find something your intended size thats already been done to compare to.

Thanks for all the info man! I'll get under the 4Runner today and have a look. Only reason I ask is because I have some 16 JDM wheels I ordered from Japan that I purchased before I bought the 4Runner that are in transit. Was gonna put them on my Tacoma but ended up selling my Taco and picking this up. If they won't work I'll definitely be going a 17. Thanks again.

Gotcha, sounds like you got some cool wheels coming. Hopefully they fit!

Will post pics once the wheels come in and if they fit I'll do a write up on all the info I've gathered to hopefully fit 16's ;)
I don't think it'll fit. Only SR5s can fit 16" wheels. I have jaos victron excel II pros 16x8 0 offset. 285/75/16

Has to do with the trim level and the brake caliper size and type...16" will not fit on a Limited trim, "usually" only SR5 packages...

Man love the way 16's have "more" tire. Nice looking SR5!

The wheels I picked up are a 16x9 -25 offset. They are a 3 piece rim with double stepped lips. Thinking I'm just going to have to try them out once I get them in person :D

My ’04 Limited has the smaller front rotors and calipers, so 16” rims fit on it. Like someone else posted, it’s just a matter of looking for the code on the calipers (WG on mine). Some limiteds have the smaller brakes, and some have the bigger brakes.

I recently bought a set of like new 16” rims that I liked (Southeast US edition, port or dealer installed rims) and they look good on my 4Runner.

I put 265/75r16 Dick Cepek tires on the rims, ~31.9” diameter.

Do you mind sharing your suspension setup as well? Your wheel/tire package looks great.
Thanks a bunch. Nothing crazy, budget build.

Bilstein 5100s on lowest notch 884/895 OME , built right ucas, and then lean spacers on driver side to correct "toyo lean".

Durobumps bumpstops/spidertrax spacers
Jaos 16x8 0 offset, 285/75/16 falken wildpeaks
