175k or more miles... should I be worried??

I hit 175k on my V6 yesterday. It burns zero oil. It still runs and looks like it was new (except the sunfade on the driver's door handle). I've driven both the 06 V8 and V6 and just didn't feel there was that big a difference and I love that I don't have to change a timing belt every 90k miles.

Either way, I would not hesitate to buy a 4Runner with 175k or more miles. Like others have said, make sure there's no rust and it looks clean inside and out. Oh, and make sure it shifts into 4-Hi and 4-Lo and that the center diff lock works.

Correct. And I have both. I have an 05 gx and an 07 v6 t4r. 05 v8 has vvti. I've seen the number and I think the vvti v6 may power out more horses than the non vvti v8. But not more torque.

I bought my V8 for personal reasons - a V8 in a mid size SUV and full time 4WD, I just didn't want to shift in and out when I needed to. I also am not a fan of the noise any V6 makes. Lastly, the 4.7L is one of the best engines Toyota has ever produced and is honestly the smoothest drivetrain I've ever experienced. Performance wise the two engines are comparable.

I've been looking for an 04-08 runner for about 3 months now. Originally I didn't want anything over about 140k but after seeing all the posts here about how dependable these suckers are at mileage close to 200k I'm considering looking for one with higher mileage.

Being that I have a company truck and won't be driving it that much anyways what should I have to worry about? As long as I find one with good service records should I be ok you think? Looking for the V8 but will take a V6 if the right color and all.

Thoughts?

For what it's worth, I bought my 2004 SR5 V8 at 175,xxx miles. Good service records, very clean interior aside from the dash (had it warranty-replaced cost free last year) and good external. Mechanically very sound (obviously--2UZFE drivetrain). I'm at 220,000 miles now. I've only replaced normal wear items and honestly put the thing through hell and I only need to update the suspension. If you're handy with a wrench you can't go wrong with a 4th gen (I have no experience with 5th). Keeping up the regular maintenance, I expect to hit 500,000 miles easy if I'm not involved in an accident. Considering I paid less than $8,000 and the quality of the vehicle and it's components, the solid feel of driving it and it's dependability--the return on investment of a 4th gen V8 really can't be beat, in my opinion.

I'll be looking at a 2006 limited loaded 4x4 with the V8 and 167k this weekend. It's the color and everything I've been looking for. T belt was just replaced too.

The guy won't go below $12,7. Has service records and all. Think this is too much to pay? Pics look like it's in excellent shape.

That's a good price if it checks out and is the color you want. I've learned to never worry over a couple of bucks if there is a car out there that I really want.

I purchased 04 with V8 at 147K for 7,500 and needing a timing belt replacement which I did right away. The previous owner had great service records (other than no timing belt). It now has 191,000 and still runs like it is new. Transmission seems to be so smooth and I trailer 2 ATV's through the White Mountains of NH with loaded gear. The only issue I have had is with rusted cooler transmission line that was replaced.

I have a 2008 SR5 V6 and it has over 201k miles and still looks and drives like it did when I bought it with 50 miles on it. Mine has never let me down or stranded. Just make sure you find one that has the maintenance records and not much rust. I am in the market to find my son a 3rd or 4th gen 4runner and I wouldn't hesitate buying one that had 150k+ miles that has been maintained.

Saw this thread and wanted to weigh in...

I'm the original owner of my 07 Sport with 188k miles. Just dropped mine off at the dealership before work this morning, and they noted they'll be doing the 200k service since I'm only 11k away. He turned my ACC function on and did a double take on the mileage. Thought it said 18k not 188k. Told him I take really good care of my vehicle, and he couldn't believe it's ten years old...said that he was blown away.

Point is...like others have noted, this vehicle is rock solid. Daily driver at 70-80 miles a day and it rides like it did the day I drove it off the lot at 4 miles on the odometer. This being only my second car and first Toyota, I am still in awe at how incredibly awesome this vehicle is built. If I had to sell my car right now (which of course I won't) with the mileage it currently has on it, I feel the next owner would inherit truly an outstanding vehicle that is built to last.

Just do it. You'll be sorry if you don't.

In 2014, I purchased my 2008 V8 4wd with 168k miles and it needed a timing belt and water pump, so I used that as a bargaining tool. I just crossed 183k and I wouldn't hesitate to drive across country with it. I actually pull a camper that weighs 3,300 lbs. or so when loaded with our stuff through the NC mountains to the beach from TN and it handles like a champ.

Long story short, if the maintenance has been done, I wouldn't worry about the mileage.
