hello I lent my friend my 1986 4runner a lil while ago and when I got it back it wont stay started. If you give it gas it will drive and drive fine but as soon as you take your foot off the gas or stop it stalls. I just did the spark end of it plugs wires cap and rotor for a tune up recently. Im thinking its either fuel filter, injector or possibly Tps. Thank you in advance any suggestions

A clogged fuel filter typically causes a problem undrer acceleration/load, not at idle.
Same with a clogged cat conv.
I don't have my FSM handy, but I seem to remember there's a fuel cut circuit in the EFI system. Could be that it is malfunctioning.

Have you checked or cleaned the TPS? That may be part of it if it will run under load but not idle correctly. Is it a hot or cold issue? I agree with the comment about the fuel filter, if that was the problem you'd really notice it under load. But the MAF, or TPS would seem to be a more likely issue at the idle.

My '87 had the cold start injector constantly running when I first bought it. Once warmed up it would run very rich and pretty much flood itself out if I let off the throttle quickly...though that might have been related to fact that my TB dashpot was backed off to the max. That's the probelm with fixing several things in one shot, your not sure what fixed what but at least I am up and running excellent now.
