1987 4runner 4cyl no heat

i've replaced the thermostat and the heater crore does not leak because the anti freese is full everytime i check it. what else could it be? need heat asap!!!

Sounds like you have trapped air in the heater core system.

When you changed your thermostat and filled it back up, what did you do to remove any air?

Try parking it on an incline with the nose up, turning your heater on high, remove the cap and let it run a while. Do a search on the forum for bleeding the coolant system too...it has been covered many times as this is a common fault for improperly bled systems. I know because I have screwed it up a time or two as well. Good Luck!

It is quite possible that your heater core is clogged/restricted...eventhough not leaking. I recommend removing the heater core and running water through it from your garden hose (don't use high pressure). If the water runs out freely then you know your core is OK.

Also, you might check to see that your hot/cold lever is working (and the cable is not broken). If you sit in the driver's seat, you can lean your head down into the passenger side foot well and see the valve lever arm moving. Work the lever upon the dash with your left hand while watching the valve arm move. The valve arm is about 2 inches towards the engine firewall from the footwell blower duct opening. Good luck!

Good points. You can also do this same technique by simply removing the two hoses on the firewall going to the core and flush it that way; it will prevent the removal of the core and save time. If water comes out the other hose, you know that there is no obstruction in the core.

heater cable

my heater cable is locked up I've tried spraying PB blaster on it to loosen it but it didn't work so does anyone know where I could find a replacement cable?

is it the cable or the actual vavle? my cable wouldnt move but then i tried to move the vavle and it wouldnt move. it was all rusty in there. take the cable off and try moving the valve like that and see what happends maybe???
