1988 3.0 Whats wrong with my gas mileage?

I keep reading horror stories about poor gas mileage and i just mapped mine through a couple of gas tanks, and i'm getting a little over 21mpg, mostly mountain driving.

i'm guessing the downhills into the springs are helping me out, but still??

yeah your getting way to good of gas mileage for that...im getting just over half that
 
Just gonna say! I'd kill for 21mpg!!!!!!!!!!! I could go 480km to a tank instead of 380-400!!!!:lmao:

You need to recheck your numbers, that does not make any sense at all. I've averaged between 13.48 to 14.56 on my last two fill ups.

I'd love to get over 20 mpg out of mine.
 
Go over to Fuelly.com and start entering in your fill-ups. I use that site and average about 15 mpg right now.

 
i'm going to keep tracking it, but thats about what it looks like.
it could be because where i live everything is downhill and i spend a lot of time going downhill. :)

i thought that was a little high, the engine has a little over 3000 miles on it. i also have manual hubs, so thats got to be a plus.
 
well, i just made a trip from colorado to california, where i averaged between 21-23.7 mpg (almost 24) driving 65 most of the way. i've kept tabs on my local tanks as well, i was getting 19.5-21 city/town driving.

so i don't know what to say. i guess maybe i'm just lucky, but i won't argue.
