1988 T4R sweet Gem sitting on the show room floor

Hey guys I just looked at a 1988 4Runner V6 automatic white with grey gut.
She is an SR5 fully loaded with 7" DVD Navi system just like mine. The truck looks 98% new with a ton of extras.
They want $13,000 for it plus dealer fee and title.

Not bad, 150xxx on an engine that had been redone. It has the K&N intake headers and upgraded exhaust too.

Very nice 1st gen. I wouldn't pay 13k for it though. I would rather spend the money restoring one to showroom condition.

Ya, it is a bummer...I have the 22re 5spd in my 88 and love it.

This 4Runner has between 8 to 9K in extras and upgrades on top of being just a clean rig. I did the math and it added up pretty fast. I am thinking pretty hard on it....I may buy it and sell mine. I don't go off road at all I use mine as my daily driver and family vehicle. The white 4Runner has more bells and whistles than mine and would be more family friendly.

Wow! what a clean looking rig. I'm not really accustomed to seeing a first gen without any sort of rear sag on it. She's a beauty, but with it being an auto and 3.0 kinda makes it a let down. Also i don't know if she's worth the price unless you can haggle down the price.

That thing is clean! The 3.0 and auto does take it down a few notches, but definitely a gem. If it was a stick it would be cool to pull that 3.0 and drop a 3.4 in there. That thing would be sweet driving down the street with a 3.4 and possibly a supercharger. Oh the possibilities. Nice find though.

The seats are the OEM SR5 but, have been recovered in vinyl or leather the rears match the fronts as well.

I feel ya....I too have a good deal of cash and time in my 88 and after a few days of thought I'm staying with mine
I don't have much left to do and I love that I know my rig, I know I can get in her right now and drive to California without fail. The little 22re 5spd will out last most anything on the road and I like my in dash Navi system better.

I want to get a front brush bar like this one has and I am definitely going to get a set of SR5 front seats then, have them recovered in a weather proof type fabric like a lot of the new sport utilities have now. I may get the replacement factory style vinyl graphics for my truck too.

Looking at this rig gave me another boost to finish mine to make it as show room worthy as this one.
A lot of people freakout when they see my rig, they can't believe how old it is and how nice it looks.


Does anyone know who makes and sells that style of bumper bar?

i see different 4runners come up that are in better shape then mine but i'll take a beating as i am very upside down.

i think it's better to know what you've done, what need to be done and go from there.

my relationship with my 4runner has become a commitment - lol.

as far as the bar, i haven't seen that specific style.

i've seen similar. the ole school ones that actually bolt to the ends of the front bumper.

the one you show doesn't appear to do that... or, am i wrong?

You are right, I do love my 4Runner and would feel bad letting her go after just one year together.

I think I will start a new thread on the finishing of my 88 project. I am thinking of polishing out my factory wheels and adding some other tasteful bling/clean mods:biggrin2:

That's a great lookin rig, but I wouldnt pay a dime over 10K for it. And it's sad how much a dealer will up charge a vehicle. They prolly gave some fella 5K for it on a trade in that was down on his luck....

I did get the story on the trade in it's...The guy traded the 4Runner and an all white TRD 2010 Fj for a maced out Tundra. He did not want to trade the 4runner but, his wife talked him into it....

The sales guy to talk to at Wesley Chapel Toyota if anyone is interested in the 88 T4R is Jack Peck
He is a pretty cool guy and seemed easy to deal with.

To the right guy it will be worth it but, for most of us the 3V is a deal breaker for that much money.
