Hi, my 4Runner started to run in the red on the temp gauge.
Brought it home and got a code 22. Engine coolant tempature switch. Started looking into it and the found a set of sensors on the back of the engine.
I found 1 with out a wire attached to it. So I am assuming that is the one.
It is in the picture attached with a red arrow pointing to it.

Can someone please confirm that this is the coolant temperature switch.

Also what color wire should be coming off of it?
Is it an actual plug that connects to it like the other sensors next to it?
B/c I do not have one unplugged in that area.

Shop key says the wire for the coolant temp sensor is suppose to be yellow-green. Hope that helps a little bit.

I had issues with my coolant temp sensor as well. Turned out the harnesses were brittle and the contacts pulled away from the ends.

I got it confused with the cold start injector (I think) wires as well when I was looking for it. There is not a whole lot of space back there, and I did a hard line re route and egr delete.

Your picture looks like its pointing at a bolt though. Is there a stray wire in there?

I just bought a 91 4runner two weeks ago. The guy i bought it off of just had the radiator, water pump and thermostat replaced a few months ago but the temp gauge never goes up. I just got a Haynes repair manual so it should have everything i need to figure out where the sensor is and what the harness looks like. I could relay some of that info if you still need it.
