1995 4Runner - Just installed HD Old Man Emu OME springs...thought? (with photos)

Looks good

It looks good! So good, I just ordered a set of coils myself! = D thanks for the pics, I was concerned the 2" lift wont be enough to match the front but it's actually got higher, thats even better. Can't you adjust the torsion bar to increase lift a bit?

congrats! and yes, you can adjust the torsion bars to get lift in the front...I just havent gotten around to it yet. I kind of like the hight difference. also, the F and R have evened out a bit since the springs have been installed for a few months now.

I'll most likely leave the front torsion bars alone until I get around to replacing them with the OME torsion bars, which I have yet to order.

I installed the Old Man Emu steering stabilizer / stabiliser / damper / dampener today. fairly easy install. just unbolt the skid plate and you get easy access to the shock. one end of the steering stabilizer was very easy to unbolt with a combo wrench and a socket wrench, while the other took 30 min or so of persistent work. I had to first un-bend the cotter pin and pull it out of the nut with needle nose pliers. then I was easily able to undo the nut. then the difficulty comes. i used a C-Clamp, gloves, and lots of persistence towards trying to free this end of the arm. you'll see what I'm talking about when you get to it. or maybe yours will pop out easily! let me know.

good luck!

That's why I'll have the pros install it. Plus the fact that I live in a condo and have a very strict HOA.

Did you get everything installed yet? Wondering how the ride is with the new suspension. I'm thinking about ordering everything you did, but can't decide on the med or hd springs.

yes, everything is installed now! I went with the HD springs - mainly for when my car is fully loaded with people and gear (camping trips). The ride is definitely stiff, though.

I'd be curious to hear the opinion of someone who went with the med, but I feel like everyone on this forum talks about the HD. Either way, I'm happy with my current setup!

i went with the HD springs. I think the med are fine unless you ever fully load up your 4runner with gear and people for trips (camping, etc). HD is also preferred, probably, if you ever tow. but for strictly a daily driver, I'd imagine med is fine. if you are unsure though, i'd default to HD since most of the folks (from what I can tell) on this forum who use OME use HD.

as far as your front suspension question, front shocks wont change the lift at all. you'd need to crank up the factory torsion bars (not recommended by most folks on this forum, but I suggest you read up on that yourself), or install ball-join spacers (BJ spacers). As far as front suspension tweaks, I have only installed the shocks.

Great looking 2nd Gen!
Clean and uncluttered look which I like.

What size tires are you running on those last two pics?
Thanks.

the HD springs
If your truck had a hay rack attached to the roof, I'd accuse you of stealing our ride & improving it!!

Your rear springs are exactly what our truck needs. We had torsion bars adjusted to try & level it as our springs are weak. I can see you take very good care of your rig. How many miles? Is it the V6? A CA or Fed model?

Please tell me if you use aftermarket or Toyota springs. What about brakes? We need to do the front on ours...

My advise to you. I notice you still have original exhaust. We are lucky that ours is a Fed model--only 1 O2 sensor. What about yours?

I can refer you to the specialist who custom did our exhaust as a cat-back. Larger cat, larger pipes plus larger muffler, big difference in performance--ESPECIALLY in heat transfer. Now our firewall & floorboard is cooler.

A problem that caused the old weak head gasket to fail (almost ALWAYS) at #6 cylinder is b/c that's where the exhaust "y" is located. Heat from that is directly below #6 & is causation for head gasket failure.

We were provided by Ed Hanson some fiberglass welder's cloth that I'm going to tie up to further protect the engine from exhaust "y" pipe heat.

Have you encountered any drive shaft problems? Such as transfer case & rear driveshaft issues?

Do you run a K&N air filter? Iridium plugs? Wires?... Please let me know.

And thanks for posting re your spring job. That is a fun job & instant results gratifying.

I love the look of your truck. i just ordered the med rear coils and rear shocks! Cant wait to get them installed!

Truck looks perfect.

It looks like the front has been lifted as well, did you touch the T-bars?

And as the previous poster asked, what size tires?
