Smooth is not the word I was use. You know when you have those times when it’s one step forward and 3 steps backwards? Yea well that was like my entire weekend.

But back on track tomorrow I think. Rear links should be ready to role by this coming weekend.

Also thinking about making one of those drive up ramps so I can test suspension mods. Otherwise it’s not science.
 
Oh yes I have had plenty of those days, and they suck bad. But glade to hear you should be back on track. RTI ramp (I think that is what it is called) for flexing out? That would be a fun little project.

How were building those links?

I needed to find a sketchy way to compress the springs and start the top bolt. I would say this was a success.

As a general rule of thumb the more things you can stack up the better. I still had extra room so I could have maybe used a couple more layers of things.
 
RTI testing has started

I got some time to grind/cut/blast an old ATV trailer loading ramp enough to get a basic RTI ramp. it's only 32" at the high end but that should be enough for now. I need to add some bracing and ground connections so it does not dig into the driveway.

I wanted a way to measure suspension changes.

I also wanted to get some stock vs my mods down to see how much you gain for doing certain things. hopefully I can get enought time to test out swaybar on//off and wheel spacers. I have always been curious to know just how much of a difference things can make.

This is the first of hopefully a bunch of RTI scores I'm going to post.

Front

BILSTEIN 6112 Set @ 1"

OEM UCA / OEM bushings
OEM LCA / OEM bushing

No front swaybar

Rear
Toytech Boss shocks

OEM upper links / poly bushings
OEM lower links / poly bushings

OME 2″ Rear 2906 Coils

No Rear swaybar

has PCK (Panhard Correction Kit) and probably needs to be adjusted. :)

98 frame gets frame horns for 99+

The frame I used for the swap was off an 98, so that means it has the old frame horns. My 4X innovations bumper like the 99+ front.

got the toyota parts, way easier than me making some. yea they are only 1/8" and I probably should have made some 3/16" thick ones. maybe next time.

bumper needs to come off, shop crane has so much love to give.

clean off that paint so we get some nice clean welds

also need to clean this part off. Notice the hook? it was blasted and painted with rustoleum, everything else was epoxy. rustoleum in the salt belt sucks.

smoked them into place; also note the OEM toyota welds on these plates are really only top/bottom.

I should have probably tried to do this before I started cutting the frame up?
It does fit like a glove, and by like I glove I mean .005mm of clearance on the clutch handle. I could have clocked it but this fine.

and mounted back up. Now I need to take care of the wires and control box. not 100% sure exactly what I'm going to do about it. I would like to hide it inside so it out of the elements but... not sure yet. installment 2.

did the magic box mod

I needed a way to mount the magic wench box. I ground down the head on an M10 and tack'ed it to the metal plate that makes up the bottom of the magic box.

Nice work mounting up the winch. I'm interested to see more of the RTI scores—keep 'em coming!

I bolted them to the bumper. Then positioned the bumper where I wanted it. Tacked them in. Removed the bumper, welded, blasted, epoxy, then top coat rattle can. I was under the impression I took more pict. But after I was done those were the only picture. I had.

It does take some courage to start cutting up the frame. I’m cutting off rear axle assemble lower link mounts today.

it's just so far gone and the wiring has been slowly failing because salt has also started to eat it. I love this stupid truck but it's just too far gone to make it worth it. my wife hates it so much and that makes it even more special to me.

When I picked it up for $400 and swapped in a $150 trans I pulled from some guy off craigs list. it's been a great adventure keeping it alive.

I think I'm going to see if it will go one more winter. I think she has it in her to do it.

had the world not gotten all weird and scary I was going to install a lift and swap the body off with the 98 I picked up in UT this last December.

until things settle down I'm going to just keep things on the down low. there is just so much risk happening in the world right now. so much uncertainty, on the bright side I have taken to playing the harmonica during my daily panic attacks so that has been a lot of fun. :)

finally gosh darn it

I finally got these links fitted. the lower links require some persuasion with the grinder to fit correctly. I'm off work this next week so the one task I have is to create new lower link mounts that are a bit beefier.

I took them for about an hour drive on the road and some gravel with some good teeth loosing wash board. I can't really tell the difference between these links, the OEM with rubber or the OEM with Poly busings. So that is good. I was worried I would be able to feel each and every bump.

beats the old stock score of 636, so happy with that. honestly I would be happy to be just as good as stock but to beat it but a couple of inches I was actually surprised.
