Hello TR4.org,
New poster to the forum, long time lurker. Been drinking some Talisker 10 and decided to start at the beginning.
Owned a 1997 4Runner Limited 2WD from 2003/4. Parents owned it before that. Put 130,000 miles on her myself and she finally ended her run at 248,736. Loved her dearly. Never got too ambitious with the mods but did most of the maintenance myself and truly loved her.
My wife and I had parked our cars in the street (a standard practice on our block) to slow down traffic. We normally don't do it, but it was Halloween night! Kids gotta get their candy and be semi safe while doing so. Anyway, I was about to get in the shower the next morning and someone starts pounding on my door at about 7:30 AM. I'm in my briefs and pissed off but everything dissolves when I answer the door and find a police officer. He kind of points out to the street and it appears that my 4Runner has (very) effectively stopped traffic.
Lady from 2 (yes, two) houses down somehow got up enough speed over the short distance in her RAV-4 to launch my 3600 lbs. 4Runner about 15 feet into my wife's Ford Focus... I was parked on the left side of our driveway.
My 4Runner was totaled. Wife's car was drivable and I suppose, all in all, this was actually a testament to Toyota engineering. The driver of the RAV-4 and her son were completely okay and literally walked home (about 100 feet). Pretty amazing how much power these things can sling.
Long story, but I was planning on getting a 4WD or doing a 4WD conversion with my father like CoB (infinite respect) because the Wife and I are planning on moving to Colorado in the next year or so to be with family.
So I took the loss and changed the tune, though not too much.
Silver (because it feels like home) 1998 (one year "newer") T4R SR5 4WD (aww yiss) with 140,000 miles (again, "newer"). Some back hatch damage and some underside rust, but a clean vehicle.
So here we go. Build thread initiated.:zoom:
