1998 T4R rear speakers upgrade help

The rear speakers do not function (blown) in my 4Runner and I took the door panel off to take a look. The stock speakers are set in a plastic housing and the 4 hole bolt pattern of the standard 5.25 speakers will not work with or without this plastic housing. It looks like maybe? 6.5's would work without the plastic speaker housing?
What is the best configuration of speaker to install in the rear doors the 5.25 or the 6.5 inch ?

6.5" will fit

I got the 6.5's installed, and they sound great.
Now I just need to get the fronts replaced with Infinity reference speakers and I's set.
