199mm Caliper Wheel Fitment Issues

I recently just did the TBU upgrade with the 199mm calipers. Installation went smoothly but when putting on my wheels I discovered that there is some binding between the wheel and the caliper? I was under the assumption that the smaller caliper would not lead to any wheel fitment issues?

I see a couple options here:
1. Get a set of used wheels of craigslist that clear the calipers
2. Get a 1/4 inch spacer and perhaps longer threads?
3. Grind down the insides of my wheels to clear them.

What would be the best option?

Not number 3. Not a good option.

#1 or 2 are viable options.

If you're dead set on these wheels, you could try grinding down a SMALL bit at a time of the caliper, until it clears. It looks like it's barely contacting.

Not a good practice overall, but it can be done if you can get by with removing a very small amount of material

I've been looking into doing this upgrade but haven't pulled the trigger yet because I was concerned about that rubbing potential. 1/4" spacers might not leave you enough contact on the hub for the hub-centric wheels. FWIW, you might be able to find some wheels that will clear on craigslist from someone who upgraded a newer 4runner. I picked up a set of 17" rims recently for $100. They aren't cosmetically perfect but they work.

I say either your pads are slighty too think or the rotors are as the 199mm upgrade mostly clears factory 3rd gen rims.

Heck even my 3rd gen rims clear on my 2009 tacoma truck and it has 17 inch rims on it.

Never grind or modify a rim as you knock it out of balance.


Your best bet is to take a 1/16 or 1/32 off your calipers were it contacts the rim..

I was suprised as well, I went OEM on the pads and rotors, and calipers are the cardone ones that others have used.

That's my worry with the 1/4 inch spacers, so it looks like I'll be picking up a set of new rims that clear the caliper.

Or you could just go with 1-1/4" proper spacers/adapters.
