The 3rd gens have an 18.5 gallon tank. My 2000 had the fuel gauge issue and at first the fuel light would come on around 240 miles into a tank. Then upon fill up I would struggle to fit 14 gallons in. I took it in for the TSB, too late for that now, and now my light comes on around 300 miles and I fit closer to 16 gallons. I say too late becaise they will only do the TSB if you are within the 3/36k warranty, and I doubt any 3rd gens still are.

Well I called Toyota about the TSB and they looked up my VIN and told me that there were no recall's on my truck. So what you are saying is as soon as the light comes on then I still have about 40 miles? That means that the gas tank would not be empty until the needle was at the bottom of the E mark.

In my 2000 SR5, V6, I was getting 18 around town. I thought it was much better than my previous SUV's (Ford Explorers).
My new 4-rnr is getting 19.9 just pooping around town, which I think is exceptional, if I can really believe it. I am getting that from the dashboard MPG read out I constantly get. BTW, I really like that this truck has this MPG read out feature. I am a real nut about MGP.

Anyone know if I can really believe these readings?

well ive never exactly tested it, but in most cars they give you a huge lead-time heads up so that if youre somewhere where you cant find a station, you have more time.

I bought 1999 SR5 4x4 in Nov. w/only 29k original tires with good thread, every 3k oil change/15k mtn at toyota dealer, garaged all the time. paid 15k. only it's dark green, I prefer light color car but this one just cannot pass it. I searched craigslist for 3-4 month almost bought a 99 lmtd w/80k for 15K, after saw this ad I pulled offer then done with this beauty.:awais:
