1st Gen 4runner accessories?

Hey guys,
I have this 1988 4runner I bought last year. I noticed there are some holes and a few old bolts in both doors, right above the windows. I'm not sure what used to be here. I thought maybe it was some kind of tow mirrors or extra lights but I cant find anything like it. Does any one have any ideas or know what it could have been?

I haven't seen any other runner with something like this...

I would guess someones added large mirrors, does it have tow hitch?

Yes it does. The tailgate is pretty banged up so it looks like the previous owner did a lot of towing and let the trailer slip a few times.
