1st gen OE swingout tire carrier

Ok I know the answer to this but I want to be sure. I took my 88 to a shop that does custom work (names will be hidden to protect the stupid) and tried to speak with them about working with me on building a custom swing out tire carrier. The guy working told me he used to have an 88 and it came from the factory with a swing out tire carrier.

I told him I know toyotas and that was not the case. was I wrong.

Don't think so. I've never seen or heard of a gen1 with a factory swingout.

I saw one guy who went to the trouble of welding a pillar inside his rear corner bodywork so he could bolt up a factory carrier from a later model, but I think that's as close as you can get.

No you are right. Never from the factory did the 1st gen come with a rear tire carrier.

If you have the frame mounts installed, I have a 2nd gen swingout arm that I might be looking to get rid of. I'm looking to mount the spare under the car to lower the center of gravity a little bit and get the weight off the back

he was definitely wrong...
ive seen a couple '90 and '91s with tire swing out, but nothing earlier than that.
