1st Gen Replacement Windshield

I have a 1987 Toyota 4Runner with a cracked windshild. Originally it had the chrome trim, but currently has the rubber gasket that never sealed correctly.

I need to find a windshield installer in Middle Tennessee that can replace my windshield and deal with the seal. Can anyone offer info on a good installer in the area?

Background:

A while back I had a cracked windshield. My 4Runner had the chrome trim. I read here (and elsewhere?) of going with a rubber gasket set instead.

I *met* a windshield installer here that said he could do it, so I contacted him and made arrangements. He came down to Tucson from Phoenix and removed the old windshield and chrome trim, THEN realized he had the wrong replacement glass. After a couple of hours he located what he believed was the right glass and stuggled mightily to install it. It leaked from day one.

Now I'm in Murfreesboro TN with much more rainfall. The leak is becoming a real problem. The glass has since cracked. Fortunately, I do have zero decuctible on the T4R so I can get it done under insurance if I can find someone competent to do it.

Thx,
Jon

i used a chain store to do mine and you need to request a 2 year warranty on the work if they wont give it to you then find one that will.
o and i paid cash for my professional install and it was well over 1500$ for the correct tint line a hue that i needed for my factory restoration.

I think you added an extra 0 by mistake on to that price... ????

your never going to live that down BV. My factory correct green tinted windshield for my '67 GTO was $315 installed with a lifetime leak free warranty. Just sayin.

I got the right glass with a blue sunstrip, fitted properly with all the rust removed and new metal welded in and my original chrome trim replaced properly and some new metal welded into the tailgate for $600 tax in. The glass should be easy to get as I believe the same piece also fits much later vehicles.

I'm having Safelite to the windshield Friday morning. They're aligned with USAA, my insurer. We'll see how it goes.

I'm looking forward to not putting my heels in a puddle after each rain. ;-)
