The newer or current supercharger kit uses a single casting for the supercharger housing and plenum. It is based on the newer 4th generation Eaton supercharger. It differs from the 3rd generation mostly in respect to the bypass valve. In the 4th generation the supercharger body has the bypass valve cast into the supercharger body where on the 3rd generation it was a separate part that had to be plumbed into the works some how. This saves space and allows a more compact installation so it can be fitted to more applications. Magnuson has taken this to the extreme and made the supercharger body, bypass valve, and plenum all one casting to make for a very compact installation. Some people get confused thinking that the new supercharger is a totally different supercharger. It really is not. It is still an Eaton M-62, 62 cubic inch supercharger. Magnuson has really done a fantastic job on the second version. The layout and casting is very well thought out and still uses all the factory connections and cables. The newer one is easier to install saving on installation time and confusion.
basically as teh title states. I am in the marked for a blower and am wondering what the differences are. looks wise i would prefer the 2nd gen but are there mechanical or reliability reasons why i should get one over the other?
From Gadgets website
i read somewhere that the 1st and 2nd gen pulley sizes are different, thus putting out more psi with the 1st gen since it has a smaller pulley. any info or specs on this exactly? cant find anything definitive. im going to be rodering the urd pulley and am not sure if i should go with the 2.2 or the 2.1. ???
Stock pulleys are the same size. The PSI rating is the same for both of them as well
As for the smaller pulley, do you have fuel upgrades? what is the elevation where you are? I would not put on a smaller pulley without fuel upgrades unless you live at higher elevations.
Stock pulley is going to boost 6-7psi. 2.2 pulley will boost 8-9psi and the 2.1 should do 9-10psi
If you are looking for some more power on top of the approximately 40hp that the 7th injector gives you, then yes the smaller pulleys should work nicely. Just remember, URD's base fuel and timing map is configured for the stock pulley so you will most likely have to do some tuning when you add a smaller pulley.
Two reasons I can think of:
The 2nd gens are newer meaning that they likely have less wear and tear on them. Also with the black 2nd gens it is easy to change the lube in the nose drive as the unit is installed right side up, as opposed to upside down like the 1st gens. I have to remove my blower in order to change out the oil (which is why it hasn't been done in ~140K.
Other than that, the blowers are both Eaton M62 roots-type blowers delivering the same performance.
On the other hand, you can probably pick up a 1st gen for cheaper.

The general rule of thumb for superchargers is that 1 psi increase in boost is approximately equal to 10hp at the crank. Therefore, the 2.2 should add about 15-20hp at the crank.
