1st Mod - Interior LEDs (pics)

Thanks for the input guys. I read JA's interior LED write up and will probably go all V-LEDS because the truth is, I don't want the dome and cargo lights to be too bright anyway.

I ordered all my bulbs tonight. Though I went with another company that I have used in the past. I like their site because they give very technical specifications on all the bulbs they sell (output in lumens, beam width in degrees, color temperature, etc). V-LED's did not have as much information.

If there interest, once I get mine installed I will create a thread so folks have a comparison.

The bulbs I ordered will do:

20 lumens in the doors, running boards, license plate (120 degree beam)

20 lumens in the dome lights (30 degree beam)

11 lumens in the map lights (220 degree beam)

All at 4,500K. 14 LED's = $63.06

On another note, I came across some coupon codes you guys can use for V-LED's site. I cannot verify they are currently working, but saw a number of recent posts that stated they were working.

Coupon codes: CLUBLEXUS or CLUBLEX

They are all caps and supposed to be good for 10 or 15% off your order!

OK I am getting a bit annoyed now. For checking out threads (this one, Fo Sheezy's) on this board to JA's website I've come to the conclusion that the front dome light (above back seats) are different in the 2003-2005 4 runners than the 2006-2009. It's almost like I was on information overload.

Just to confirm 100000% here is what I need for my 2004 rig:

Map lights, door lights and license plate lights (4 pair):
2 HID 6K WHITE HIGH POWER LICENSE PLATE MAP PARKING LED BULBS 194 168 158

Front Dome Light:
HID WHITE M-SMT 16 LED DOME LIGHT BULB 3022 3021 DE3175

Rear Dome Light:
HID WHITE 9 LED DOME LIGHT 3022 3021 DE3175 6428 6430

What the heck is this one for then?

2 HID 6K WHITE SMT 5 LED LIGHT BULBS 194 168 158 2821

I've never been so frustrated over just some LED lights.

The last one, is for the map lights (1 pair). It spreads light 360 degrees and takes advantage of the reflector in the map lights.

The first one, is for the doors (2 pairs), license (1 pair), and if you have running boards (2 pairs).

The front dome light may or may not fit in your rig. It all depends on the housing on the roof. Fit looked iffy for my housing, and it looks way different than Triguys. My front dome housing looks just like the rear.

The rear dome light should fit both if they look the same.

No running board lights on 03-04 I believe. No vanity either. The 1st one should be for the map lights as well.

Ok maybe I didn't make myself clear. The last one is a different design that projects light in all directions, this takes advantage of the reflector in the map lights- a benefit because you get more light out of it and it's more of a flood.

Can you use the 1st one there? Yes, but it only outputs light in one direction which means less light, and it will be more directional instead of a flood.

Trust me, you're better off using a directional bulb (the first one) for areas like the doors, license, and running boards (if equipped). You want that design because it projects all the light directly to the diffuser or lens. The diffuser or lens then does the job of dispersing the light.

A multi-directional bulb (the last one) is better to suited to a location with a reflector behind it like the map lights. If you use this bulb in the doors, license, or running boards you are effectively wasting 4 of the 5 LED's on the bulb since there is no reflector in those locations. The license plate may have one but you really don't need to use a multi-directional there even if it does.

OK I think I got it. To recap:

Door lights and license plate lights (3 pair):
2 HID 6K WHITE HIGH POWER LICENSE PLATE MAP PARKING LED BULBS 194 168 158

Front Dome Light (1 pair):
HID WHITE M-SMT 16 LED DOME LIGHT BULB 3022 3021 DE3175

Rear Dome Light (1 pair):
HID WHITE 9 LED DOME LIGHT 3022 3021 DE3175 6428 6430

Map Lights (1 pair)

2 HID 6K WHITE SMT 5 LED LIGHT BULBS 194 168 158 2821

I just took a pic of my front dome light as well to show you:

Yup, you should be golden.

Your dome light is completely different from my 08, mine are both close to flush with the ceiling and only have one bulb. Post pics when you get yours done!

I believe that 3022 is a more popular size for the festoon bulbs. That's what I have always purchased. Just like the 194's are also 168's, the 3022's are also 3021 and 3175. Most sites that I have used list 3022.

Thanks Josh, good to know. I pulled the "3175" off Sylvania's site as confirmation.

I think he has the rear seat audio or RSES.

Yes I do have rear seat audio (that never gets used).

Anyone know what LED bulb(s) I would need then?

Received and installed my LED's last night. Very happy with them- its a huge improvement over the incandescents that were in there. Gonna do the map light mod tonight.

On another note, made an appointment for Friday to have 15% tint put in all around!

Inspired by all of you awesome forum members, I decided to start off the mods to my (new to me) 2005 Limited with interior LEDs. Hope you enjoy the pics...it's the first mod of many to come. Special thanks to FoSheezy for pointing me to the right vendor, however I did make a few changes to what he used.

I didn't want to make the interior super bright, so I opted to use the more standard "bulb" type of replacements in the dome lights rather than the big flat panels that need to be taped in the area with some possible cutting or mods. It was a little cheaper and definitely much faster since it just involved popping out the DE3175 and putting the new LED version in.

I am still waiting on the vanity lights for the sun visors (out of stock). So now I'll probably move my focus to HIDs for the headlights!

Is there an alternative to the middle dome light? It's been out of stock a for a while and I don't want to piecemeal order the lights.

My bulbs should arrive later this week. How do I remove the plastic cover over the door lights? Also, how do I remove the bulb from the map lights? I was able to pull down the panel but couldn't get the bulb out. I have tried everything with no luck. I was able to remove the running board lights and dome lights. Thanks for any help!

Mark, on mine a small flathead is all I needed. There a couple of slots around the edges of the lens.

I had problems with the maplight bulbs also, wiggle them side to side gently and keep trying. They'll come out.

Mpower, that's part of the reason I went with another vendor. I was concerned if I ordered bulbs from different places the color temperature might not match.
