those SC400 headers really tuck in nice and tight...about a fingers width at the tightest spot... don't have to cut the frame or shock towers...or any thing else for that matter to get the engine to fit...that's a good thing.

here is the cross member plate adapter I made, what you cant see in this pic is the 1/2 inch spacers above each bolt...you can also rotate the mount itself 180 degrees to get or loose about a half an inch in fore/aft movement.

Do you think your exhaust will fit now?? It's hard to tell in the pictures? Just wondering if it would be easier to just build a set of headers? Won't be cheaper...but maybe easier??

Thanks for sharing your build with us...love all the pictures!

Good luck Buddy...

I have had quite a few people ask about my supercharger...

I will sell it here on T4R to the first person who makes the offer solid.

I am asking 1700.00 shipped to your door for the entire kit...
TRD second gen supercharger in perfect condition, with all hoses, belts, brackets, gaskets, nuts, bolts, check valve, two dynamic tensioners, factory TRD box, instructions and manuals.

everything you will need to bolt it on and go. I will also answer any questions for whoever buys it about the installation. Hell if you wanna come here and get it I can install it for ya in an afternoon...at no extra cost to boot.

I can attest that this mod will wake up that 3.4 engine...even with 35s my 4runner would run neck and neck with newer v8 Tundras and 4Runners...

Oh yeah, it's hard to tell in that pic but there is about 3 inches between the flange and the steering in fore/aft terms... the exhaust will curve right around there with inches to spare...

Nice progress. Are you using solid motor mounts? I had solid mounts on my LS1 240sx and it wasn't exactly comfortable for daily driving. The UZ is a more balanced motor though. Keep these updates coming. A definitive parts list would be awesome.

Yep, solid mounts...I thought about using the Lexus or 4runner rubber parts...then I giggled as I thought "No, I wanna feel it" But, if it's too much vibration, I will make a set of mounts that sit on the rubber... I will edit the first or second post on this thread to start a parts list...and update it as I go along as I'm not sure what all is needed to finish it at this point...

here are a couple more pics that may show the clearance for the exhaust using SC400 headers and a 2" body lift...

as you can see, there should be no fitment problems. the factory SC400 cats will not fit in their factory locations, but if you wanted to run them a foot or so downstream I wouldn't think it would hurt anything. I choose to just omit them, seeing as I live in an emissions free state...I may whip up an O2 simulator for the rear sensors if the ECU throws a code...

Here's a sneak peak at what's about to happen next...

Hey, it's only about 220 wires...the four connectors with the blue tape are the Lexus, the four connectors on the right are the 4runner...all we have to do is make them match...the long slender black wire bundles are from the 4runner harness, they go to the trans temp, and three transfer switches...the other three 40 pin connectors are for the ECU, the two for the trac computer are out of frame to the left...

It was blistering cold out today, so I just tinkered around with the swap today...
You can see in this pic that the fuel lines simply connect as they were, and the Lexus igniters found a happy home where the evap system used to live...left some room for future upgrades too....

TIP NUMBER EIGHT
"the 1UZ uses two igniters that are identical, you can plug them in either or, makes no difference to the ECU" two things here to note however, the igniters have to be grounded to the chassis so make sure to bolt them in somewhere solid. Also, one of the connectors has an extra wire that is the Tach signal wire and it's set up for a digital 4 cylinder signal. soooo that means I will probably need to source a 4cylinder tach...still researching that deal.

UPDATE:
TIP NUMBER TEN
"Dakota Digital" http://www.dakotadigital.com/index....tegory_id=287/home_id=59/mode=prod/prd127.htm
These guys make all kinds of digital converters... I'm getting a tach signal converter that will convert any tach signal to any gauge I want.

I will probably have to get some longer vacuum hose and relocate the VSV's for the front diff...

In this pic, you see the 4runner hydraulic hose fits the Lexus pump just fine, you will need to swap the sensors as I did here though as the Lexus uses a mechanical idle up switch.

Then I started thinking about the air filter box and Lexus AFM...
The 4runner box and the Lex box are basically the same dimensions, they just have different mounting tabs. I like the stock look, so I started modding the 4runner box to accept the Lex AFM.

Now I'm just a flexible elbow away from an intake...

or, I may put the silencer back on, and just get a cone filter...IDK
but right now I'm cold and hungry so I'm going back in the house...

Awesome updates. Now, the second half of the proposal. If you, after completing the entire swap, post all of the non-1jz/5vz parts you used (so people can acquire the engine, or a front clip, or whatever, and all the parts used from other motors) and manufacture the custom fab parts you've used, I will kickstart the cooter out of a nonexistent kick-starter!

You have no idea how jelly I am of what you're doing. I've come a long ways with my DIYbility, but the things you're doing now have me realizing what direction I need to move in next (complete confidence in taking on the unknown!)

Thankyou.

I am waiting for that electrical piece. This is amazing but what I hate most is electrical especially on a modern engine ecu.

I imagine that you have an fsm for both so I know there won't be pics.....just do a video of it starting and running.

This is just my opinion from having worked on Toyota's back in the day, and seeing how they are constructed today.

I think the early 90's to about '95, was the pinnacle of Toyota build quality. Since then it seems to be on a steady decline. Which is another reason I haven't seriously wanted a newer 4Runner.

I used to work for Toyota, I can attest that mid to late 80's to about '02 was by far the best years for any Toyota both in style, design, and quality. I just wish I could buy a brand new 3rd gen. Who knows, maybe there's a few that got lost on their way to dealerships and are sitting in containers waiting to be discovered...

When you go out to "tinker around" you seriously get shit done. Awesome progress and good luck with the rest of the swap.

If I was a rich guy I think making an offer for the blueprints on the 3rd gen would be a worth while investment. Icon did it...or maybe we should just all chip in on a factory lol.

People have done it with the old Deloreans as well as old Mustangs for sure, and I want to say the old VW Bus and Beatle, all it takes is a large enough dedicated community with enough love for the vehicle, a little luck and cooperation with the company, and a few million dollars...

If I win the lottery guys, where do you want the factory?

Northern Colorado would get my vote or a dozen of other places.....just not California. I am broke as hell but I would be a willing employee.

Anyway enough thread jacking. Sorry man. It keeps looking better with every post.

Hey, it's all good, I would come work in your factory if you ever get it up and running...I'm sure between all of us we could make a truck as good as anything the big guys are putting out...So count me in...

Here's what I was up to today.
At the top, is the wiring to the alternator from the power distribution box. pretty easy task using the alternator half from the Lexus and the fuse box half from the 4 runner. Just had to re-pin the 3 wire connector and mate the positive cables together.

On the left are connectors EB1 and EB2 from the Lexus loom. they contain the main power circuits for the 1UZ. My job is to integrate them into the 4runner power distribution/fuse box. basically what has to be done is this.
for engine starting purposes, I simply used the start relay wire, and the EFI relay and wires. I just found the same wires in the 4runner fuse box for the start relay (different color, but same origin and landing) and plugged the Lexus wires in there in place of the 4runner wires.

For the EFI I used the empty spot in the fuse box and pulled the one wire from the 4runner EFI wiring and landed it on the Lex EFI relay now in the empty spot in the box. that relay also has a jumper that goes from one pole on the relay over to a 20a fuse. so I just landed it there in place of the one that was there.

That leaves only the A/C clutch relay, which isn't needed for engine operation, and will have to be routed over to the pass fender area. and the IG2 relay for which there is only one B-O wire that's important and only needs switched 12v power. for this I will land at the IG2 terminal on the ignition switch.

here's the alternator wiring all grafted together, it's now plug and play. The lexus even had a nifty little junction box with a window for the connection.

Here I'm busy integrating the EB1 and EB2 connectors into the fuse box. I de-pinned all the relay connections except for this one 30a fuse lead I had to solder it because I didn't have another spade the right size.
(notice the Lexus wiring is B-Y and the 4runner counterpart is L-R)

You definitely need the wiring diagrams for both vehicles in order to figure out where stuff goes.

here it is all done...just gotta loom it up in the morning...Man, it's getting dark at 4:00 that sux...

Man, I was soooo disappointed with The Walking Dead last nite...not nearly enough carnage...anyway, I had the swap to look forward to today.

got my shift linkage all sorted out.

started putting things into place, and routing wire looms.
( Ha, I just noticed in this pic...that "u" shaped hose... I been lookin all over for it)

started putting the front end back together, haven't welded it in yet, just getting an idea how stuff should fit. connecting hoses, checking torque specs, just getting things in order, and making a list of things I need to pick up from the auto parts supply. I'm probably going to do fluids, and stuff tomorrow, I've also got a couple more wires need landing. I may try to fire it in a day or so....

here's a shot showing how the whole thing sits in.

I plan on a pusher fan set up, but it looks like i may have just enough room for a puller...
