I thought some of you may appreciate this...

This is basically exactly what has to happen inside the fuse box, in order to graft the Lexus connectors EB1 and EB2 into the 4runner...
Please excuse my hen scratch. but it's pretty straight forward, the highlighted wires are native 4runner wires, the non-highlighted ones are from the lex connectors. The Circuit opening relay for the fuel pump and the lex B-R needed to use the same pole, so I opted for the beefier Lex 22a EFI relay, the 4runner conveniently had an empty spot that fits perfect.

TIP NUMBER NINE
"don't get confused looking at the relays"
there is no in or out on a relay, there is just the coil side and the contact side. doesn't matter which way round you put the wires as long as you get the right two on the coil, and the right two on the contact. So, you can swap the wires going to 1 and 2 or you can swap the wires going to 3 and 5 and it wont make any difference.

I've been pouring over wiring diagrams for a day or so now, It seems the 4 runner ABS should be unaffected by the swap, but It's not going to play nice with the Lexus traction control...so I'll have to ditch the trac...The A/C only needs to have the one magnetic clutch wire landed on the connector II3 pin 25 that goes to the 4runner A/C amplifier. most everything else seems just a matter of matching pins into a custom connector...I'll be doing that this week.

Sick build man. Love it. Cant wait to hear that thing scream, love the UZ engines.

My dad has a Tundra with the 2UZ, lovely engine that retained it's Lexus feel even after being "truckified".

Northern Colorado would get my vote or a dozen of other places.....just not California. I am broke as hell but I would be a willing employee.

Anyway enough thread jacking. Sorry man. It keeps looking better with every post.

Count me in, I'm not much of a mechanic but I'm a damn good Project Manager!

Great Build!

BOINK!!!

Well, thanks to a horrendously time consuming work schedule, bitter cold, and a breathtakingly relentless bout of bronchitis, I haven't been able to work on my swap for the last eighteen days...Alas, today is Saturn day, and I'm feeling fine.
The weather is good, I'm off work, some much needed parts have arrived, and all is aligned for some productive work and an update...stay tuned.

Glad to here you're alive and well. That bronchitis is nothing to mess with...put you in the hospital quick fast and in a hurry it will!!

Hey, just to give you a heads up....I'm about 4-5 hrs north of you in Ohio. So once you finish your build...I might bring down my rig and have you hook it up with one of your V-8 specials!! So take good notes and let me know how much you're going to charge me...lol!!!

Thanks for all the pictures and keeping us updated. That way we can all live vicariously through you...I know I do...lol!! Vroom Vroom!!!

Good luck Sir...

One day I will be rich. One day my 5vz will finally give up the ghost. On that day, if you're not old and decrepit by then, I will head north to KY with my truck on a flatbed and a large bag of cash.

Got the drive shafts back from the shop...-3" in the rear, and +3" in the front.

I flipped the front one around backwards to allow a little more clearance for the trans dip stick tube.

then I welded the core support back together and got to work in the engine compartment connecting hoses and installing the electric fan and controller.

I put the trans cooler in between the radiator and the condenser plumbed in series with the radiators trans cooler...
not much clearance, only about 3/8 inch...between the fan motor and the crank pulley. but it was enough room for a puller setup, I was thinking I would have to run a pusher, and may add a small one later.

I shopped around for the thinnest fan possible, I settled on the Maridyne 166.
It's only 2.9 inches thick. Here's a shot from-unda...

A closing shot of the engine bay...It's getting pretty crowded in there...

Stay tuned, I'll be doing the body harness wiring in the morning.

Thanks for all the kind words... I think once I figure everything out, there could be a list of things one could get done in advance of the swap. Then the swap could be done in a fair amount of time, maybe a solid week or so. Actually, If someone could have all the parts bought and fabricated in advance, the swap wouldn't take much time at all.
The main thing that's taking a lot of time is just having to figure out things as I go.

be better if you pulled the donor car up here with your truck... :)
Don't forget the insanely huge bag of cash...Oh, and it's probably too late on the old and decrepit part...:faint:

You're pissing me off...I need to get my swap started but I'm just sitting here watching you do your 1uz swap...and I'm like...Damnnn when I get back to San Diego I gotta haul the tundra from LA...get my differentials...buy an apartment...shiiiiiiiiiiiii. I need to just get the swap done ASAP. Gotta get that V8

HeHe... motivation comes to people in differing ways...I'm sure you will get to it when the timing is right. Although I think the 1UZ engine is superior in design, I think you will be happier with the 2UZ engine from the Tundra... It's an OBD-2 system which is much better, also, It's already set up for a good fit. Makes a little more horsepower in stock form, and probably has less mileage than any 1UZ your likely to find... You're doing your homework, and that tells me that it will eventually happen, and you will be ready, when the stars align...

Just read through that entire thread...WOW what a sweet truck...I must say, I'm very impressed...1UZ and 2UZ are both excellent choices in my opinion and each have their own set of pro's and con's...either way, a V8 4Runner is where it's at...:guitar3:

Haha thanks man, yours too! I can't wait to hear the first start of this bad boy.

Hey I got a great idea...when you make a part or a wiring harness...just make two of them. That way we'll save a lot of time...lol!!!

But seriously, you could make a lot of money if you put together a kit for a V-8 swap! Motor and trans mounts, front and rear drive shafts, electric fans, radiator hoses and a wiring book to show how to wire everything up. Especially if you made it for the 2UZ...or better yet the 5.7 out of the new Tundras! Yeah BABY!!! Guys would flood the market with used superchargers and be standing in line to buy your "kit".

Hey I get a 5% kickback on each kit you sale...my idea..hahaha.

Yea, I sure wish I had a 2UR-GSE just layin around...If anyone wants to donate one, I'd be more than happy to develop an all inclusive swap for the 3rd gen 4Runner... I would even give the donor the first kit for free...:zoom:

It's alive...

Here's a quick video of the 1UZ roaring to life...
I just have a few things now to finish up. The A/C trigger wire and custom hoses from Bowling Green rubber and gasket, The exhaust I'm going with 2.5" Two into one Flowmaster super 44 Into 3" tail pipe, Still need the 3" flexible elbow for my stock intake/afm setup, and I'm waiting on an LS400 power steering reservoir and pump to finish that off. So far, everything is working as it should, I will put the rear o2 sensors in with the exhaust, that will eliminate the check engine light, I still need to set up the Dakota Digital tachometer interface for the proper calibration, the infra-red backup camera, and a few other odds and ends...I treated myself to an Android double din navigation just because I was feelin froggy...

<iframe width="854" height="510" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/vVhQVwkck0c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Now, I'm thinkin about other stuff from the Lexus I can trans-graft into the 4Runner, Maybe power tilt wheel, Power front seats, Maybe a rear power sun roof, Hmmmm....Maybe a Nakamichi amp sub-woofer and 12 disc changer...IDK you never know what I may be up too...:naughty:

Bet that's the best damn feeling in the world. Had me grinning like an idiot as soon as the key chimes started. Pretty amazing work!

Wonderful! It is one of the most satisfying feelings to have it start up like that man, can't wait to see it in action man! God I need to get to California ASAP. Did you ever end up doing the transmission guts? I saw that you said you were going to change over the orbital gears and whatnot, it gave me the idea to do the same, seems like it would be a good idea since the tundra, and the 4runner use the same a340 trannies.
