Bet that's the best damn feeling in the world. Had me grinning like an idiot as soon as the key chimes started. Pretty amazing work!

Meee toooo...:jump: I was grinnin so loud, I actually noticed I was doin it...
thanks for the good words..

Wonderful! It is one of the most satisfying feelings to have it start up like that man, can't wait to see it in action man! God I need to get to California ASAP. Did you ever end up doing the transmission guts? I saw that you said you were going to change over the orbital gears and whatnot, it gave me the idea to do the same, seems like it would be a good idea since the tundra, and the 4runner use the same a340 trannies.

Yep, I did that probably the first thing after pulling the engines.
I didn't get a lot of pics, but I had to change quite a few parts. the lexus and the 4runner both used a340s so everything except the front speed sensor just bolted in, and I only had to drill a hole for it. the bolt hole and bung were already there.

I picked up a tundra rear speed sensor, (the one with the gear on it) for the tail-shaft. the 4runner doesn't use one but had the hole for it. the lexus uses one for the speedo but may throw a code without it. so I'll use that if I have to.

the main parts swap list is on the first page.

Here's the lexus reservoir bracket, I modified it to go here...

jut cut it down and bent it to fit...then bolted it down...really running out of room under the hood...My trick air box just isn't going to fit so I'll have to run a cone filter of some sort...

Congratulations! Sounds like you might need an exhaust still but the whole swap has gone pretty quickly imo.

Thanks...I got a Flowmaster super 44 for it, I'll take it to the exhaust shop sometime this week..hopefully. It's just easier and better if I let the shop do that part...I'll just show up with a box of parts and a bag of money...

Yeah exhaust work is not easy. I did it before and even had a hydro bender and couldn't get it right with 2 10 ft sticks and 4 hours.

Took it to the shop and they fixed and finished my debacle in 15 min or less. :(

Looks and sounds good, though how low is the idle?

I see a R150f swap in your future.

It's actually idling perfect at around 1000 rpm's until the temps come up then it drops to 750ish...the Dakota Digital tach interface wasn't calibrated yet in that vid...

I don't know about the R150, as much as like shifting gears and the visceral experience of being tied to the engine through the shifter, I've kinda grown to like the auto...Guess I'm getting lazy...

This is so awesome! Great work.

If you want to sell me just one of the dynamic tensioners off your supercharger...let me know.

What's up with your hood looking like it's been through a fire?

Haah Haa....I know right! I was wondering if someone would notice...

I just never painted it when I bought it. I'm going to paint it as part of this swap, I need to fix a dent on the front lip from when the wind blew it off the other day, then I may paint it satin black with a bigass skull and crossbones on it...

What do you guys think about that idea, Should I paint it Desert Dune? Or satin black with a huge Jolly Roger?

It has gone fairly well, about a month into it now...It wasn't all peaches and cream though... I had a coil pack fry the other night, caused the engine to run on 4 cylinders (surprisingly smooth BTW) that took me about two hours of headscratching...when doing the swap there's all kinds of things that can cause you to second guess yourself, then you just go back to basics...testing voltage and resistances leads you to a fried coil...

Then I was nervous about the coolant sender for the gauge, I had the lex one in there and was sceptical of the ohms value, when I tried to take it out, is snapped off in the water jacket...I actually said out loud...(OHHH $&!T) so I had to tap it out...That took a couple hours...

Here's a couple pics of that stuff...

new coil and broken temp sender

here it is after extraction...
how bout dem 1993 yazaki wires??? this engine is still running perfect getting 20-22 MPG with factory fresh wires n plugs...
although one of the coils did just give up...so I ordered all new stuff... coils, wires, plugs, caps, rotors.

here it is all soldered up with new connector...
We don't get a lot of rust here... but there are lots of gravel/dirt roads, that dust gets everywhere...

There's been a few other issues, you just gotta work em one at a time...I'm sure there will be more...

Really loving this thread. Can't believe that engine gets 22 MPG?? I assume it will be a bit less in the 4Runner due to weight?

So this engine has coil packs AND a distributor cap? I thought that in general engines had either or?

How far are you from driving this baby?

My 2000 LS400 gets around 22-24mpg and that thing is a tank. The UZs are pretty decent on gas for an older V8.

Hey Alan, if you were to happen to make some motor mounts for me and I just so happened to pay you for them, would you do it??

I love your swap it's clean and Toyota.....just dont give up the good work....It's not always easy but it just fun...to do and to drive after....

Of course you should do whatever you wish. If it were mine, and the rest of the truck looks as good as it seems to in the video, then I'd do a nice Desert Dune paint job on the hood.

If the truck were beat to hell and looked like shit, then I'd consider the satin black/Jolly Roger motif.
