Wow...straight 6 with twin turbos!! Sound pretty wild...if you go with the Supra version...looking over 321hp! Sounds like all kinds of fun...!!

My question is: will a straight 6 fit in the engine bay?? If it fits...I say go for it. Weather you go with the twin turbos or not...still be a way cool swap!

Not to take the thread off track,
I've done a LOT of research into the 2jzgte swap as it's what I have in my GS300 and I'd like congruency between my two vehicles. You can use the TT Auto which is the same as ours and you can cut the output shaft a little shorter and bolt up the transfer case (divorced not the awd common fluid ones and adding a couple holes with a drill and tap). Front sump pans fit over the IFS perfectly, the twins are a tight fit and some people say they fit with a hammer and some say that they do not, which is actually the most undocumented part of the swap. Most guys say that the wiring is like Toyota meant them to be in the trucks but once again No hard evidence. Worst case scenario you're $1400 deep in a custom harness to plug and play. However, the rising cost of a 2jzgte pullout is making me look increasingly more at the 1/2UZ swaps to suit my needs. I don't want a race truck but just enough to be responsive, have fun, and pick on a chevy or two. I don't know. I have 285k on the truck now and when this motor goes I'll be going one way or the other with it.

I have been VERY excited to see this thread as I've learned a lot from it. We all owe this gentleman a huge thank you for this contribution to the community!

I know lots of people have swapped Toyota inline sixes into 4runners before. I've seen 7mge, 7mgte, 1jz, and 2jzgte done with success. I think I've even seen a 5m in a first gen runner done a long time ago. You wont be disappointed with a 2jzgte. Would be the ultimate turbo runner in my opinion. The factory twins spin up real fast too. Then you also got the potential for big dependable power. I wouldn't hesitate to do this swap. I've been making Toyota's go fast since I was in high school, back then, you could buy wrecked Toyota's for almost nothing...in the 80s, a 72 Celica with a turbo 6m would eat most Camaro's and Trans Am's for breakfast. if you decide to do it, I'll be watching...

As soon as the 5vz dies, something is getting swapped in. I've been neglecting it trying to push it over the edge but it just isn't happening. Honestly I need to finish my GS300 rebuild before I start on this one but it's getting more and more boring daily driving the old tired 4runner. I'm at 285k and climbing and she just won't die. Seeing your 1uz build has me questioning my motives, however. :becky:
 
As promised I got the front diff and CV axles pulled out today, Honestly, it
wasn't too bad to get out. Maybe the engine swap created more room to wiggle it out.


The breaks still look good, but they are about ready for pads...Looks like a TBU is in the near future.

Then I got to swapping parts from the 4:11 over to the ARB locked 5:29,



Note the 35mm socket, good luck finding that thing in a small town...I never did find a 12mm hex, I had to make one.



Man, What a mess...



Here it is all bolted back up. I didn't get to finish up because my axles didn't come in yet...I'm planning to reboot my oem ones and keep them for trail spares. The parts house said maybe tomorrow but probably Monday...Figures, I don't get to drive it all weekend, and it's supposed to be pouring down rain on Monday. Ugh...

Thanks man...Yea they really give some peace of mind plus they're the only ones I've found that are tall enough for the stuff I do...They raise up to 30" high. They also are wide enough to grasp the frame rails properly. If you can find them on sale at Harbor Freight, you can get a good deal on them. Those are 12 Ton BTW... 24,000 lbs.

man if i had a second car and a real job and some expendable money, id do a solid axle swap(80 axles) and put one of these(1uz) in my truck.

these all bolt in right :becky:.

also if you happen to come across a gs400 1997 or later they have a vvti version of the 1uzfe that produces 300hp and 310 ft-lb of torque, it would bolt in to your modified truck.

That's not a bad deal...I find complete cars around here all the time on craigslist for under a grand...just looked at one in Bowling Green the other day, was a really rough shape ls400...it started and ran but had issues...rough. guy had it marked at 650.00 and begged me to make him a cash offer...prolly could have got the whole car for 400.00. But man it was rough...better to spend a little more and get parts in good condition.

I've thought about that...I think they are OBDII also...so I could use Torque pro on my screen...
 
went to a cruise in...


Lot's of people stopped to look it over, Don't think anyone even noticed the V8...

started work on my on-board air...


I used fat-mat on the backside of the factory storage box, then used a metal bracket on the underside to mount the compressor through the rubber isolators. I'll fat-mat the storage box door also...drilled the hole for the air hose, then the hole for the wiring.

I'll mount the tank upunda there tomorrow.

So, I went down to Blue Holler Off Road Park with a couple good friends,

We've been getting HEAVY rains for the last few days, remnants of the moisture blowing up from the Tropical Depression moving north east from the gulf...These trails were slicker than snot! My bud Paul just got this red YJ on a trade two days ago, It's slated for a full build. It lost the transfer case about half way through. Was fun pulling him around though.

Blue Holler off road park is located right beside Nolin Dam just north of Bowling Green Ky. It's operated by some super good people, It's over a thousand acres and there are lots of caves, creeks, and hollers to explore.





It doesn't show good in this pic, but this hole was gnarly! We had a hell of a time with it.
