2.0 Rear Shock Options?

Ok, so I've decided to hang onto my '99 T4R and keep building on it (was for sale for few weeks). I'd like to finish off a few areas on the truck before driving it from NC to CO/UT in mid-September for off road trip.

Primarily looking to upgrade my rear shocks to a set of 2.0" rebuildable shocks from a company like ICON or SAW. Currently I'm running SAW 2.5" C/O's up front with Camburg UCAs and OME coils in the rear with OME Shocks. The OME rear shocks are "fine" but I'd really like to complement the front with a set of SAW 2.0s for the rear.

That being said I have not idea what travel or shock to go with. SAW does not list a 3rd Gen specific rear shock option but I'm sure they have something that will work.

I'm planning to call them later today but wanted to see if anyone on here had experience with 2.0 rear shock set ups on your 3rd Gen?

Spoke to SAW and they have no recommendations...not much help at all.

Anyone know if shocks from a later model Tacoma of FJ Cruiser will adapt over to the 3rd Gen's? The FJ Cruiser rear shock looks to have a similar top bushing design as our trucks?

I run OME but have heard only good things about ICON and have been on the trail with others running an ICON setup and was impressed. If money didn't matter I would definitely switch to ICON over Fox or King. If you haven't seen it yet I'd reccomend watching Expedition Overland on YouTube. They run an ICON set up on a LC 100, 5th gen T4R and 2nd gen Taco. Also here's a thread on Expo Portal you might be interested in

[MENTION=114863]4RunningDaily[/MENTION] has FJ cruiser shocks. I think they are valved stiffer, but you could probably get them custom with different valving
 
I have Fox 2.5's up front and Fox 2.0's in rear with ome springs. The front is better than the rear but for the money the 2.0' s are not bad. Nice and smooth ride. I am going to install some airbumps front and rear and that should make a world of difference. I should be able to jump the truck and hit the whoops in the dunes at quite a bit higher speed than now. The high end rear shocks were 1500 to 2000 and would have taken months to build . Then you have the issue of new shock mounts for the longer travel. I feel the airbumps and some limit straps up front are as good as it gets on these trucks. Unless you have the cash for the Deaver springs and some triple bypass shocks!

I just bought my suspension and went through the same thing. Icon only makes a 0-1" rear shock for the 3rd gen so I went with 2.0 fox 2-3" for the rear.
 
Yup those are the same shocks I have. I actually sold Nate my used ones off my 06. Great shocks and super smooth.

You do have to extend your bump stops due to the longer compressed length but they work very well.
 
You can run the Rear Shocks from a 03+ 4Runner, but you will need to get a BumpStop Drop Kit to avoid bottoming out the shocks. We can help you get both those items if that is the route you would like to go.

Couldn't agree more! My SAWs came from Wheeler's and Dan set me up with a great deal!

Thanks for the help. I'll give Dan a call on Monday about the SAW rear shocks. I have a rear bump stop kit already so these should do the trick.
 
^ those are what I have. I got them from toytec, they said they press in a new lower bushing to make it work on the 4Runner. They are nice, but I wish I had more money and time to run 2.5" rear.
 
Thanks [MENTION=118151]meRockboost[/MENTION], I guess I'll just buy from Toytec to avoid any modification. I'm only going to be running fabtech/ fox 2.0's coilovers in the front so I think they'll complement one another well enough.

Can anyone compare the damping of the above mentioned shocks and the Bilstein 5100s in the Sonoran Steel 7.2 kit? The 5100s feel quite underdamped rebound-wise too me. Sorry, I don't have numbers.
