2.0 Rear Shock Options?

Can anyone compare the damping of the above mentioned shocks and the Bilstein 5100s in the Sonoran Steel 7.2 kit? The 5100s feel quite underdamped rebound-wise too me. Sorry, I don't have numbers.

By next thursday I'll be able to tell you. These bad boys just came in. I'm running the 5100s from the SS1.2 kit currently

Quick Question

So I'm still collecting parts and have fox coilovers and the fox 2.0's in the rear, but I don't know what springs to run in the rear.... I've seen [MENTION=118151]meRockboost[/MENTION]'s setup and it looks good, but I want something that's gonna be a nice ride and not too tall since I don't have any armour...

I've been slacking on the updates. Tried to wait till this weekend after I get a wheeling trip in to post pictures and my final thoughts. But since you asked here is a pic of the fabrication process and some preliminary opinions.

Honestly its a completely different truck. The custom valving job that King & Filthy Motorsports did makes the truck ride incredibly well. Its so planted and I really have to hit a pretty big bump before I notice it. I always had issues with the SS1.2 bilsteins jumping around when I hit bumps at highway speeds and that is completely gone now. The body roll hitting bumps while cornering is gone too, the truck stays flat no matter how hard I roll into a corner.

Surely there is a way to get a set of those upper mounts I hope,lmk. That looks really good. Did you ditch the rear sway now too? Wheel specs that you aren't rubbing with?

Edit..Did you change the lower mounts? Interested to read about your set up.

Are you having any rubbing issues with the shock tower being so high up in the wheel well? I'm making my outboard shock towers tomorrow and I'm running 1.25" spacers
 
You can run the Rear Shocks from a 03+ 4Runner, but you will need to get a BumpStop Drop Kit to avoid bottoming out the shocks. We can help you get both those items if that is the route you would like to go.

I'm curious about this, wouldn't this limit your flex ? Whats the point of longer shock and longer bumo stops ?
 
You will gain additional droop, but limit some of the up travel. If you do it right you still gain more overall travel though due to the longer shocks.

Rear sway bar is still on. With the 9 wraps there is no way I would take it off haha. That's part of the reason why the shocks are mounted behind the axle. The stock lower mount will be hacked off pretty soon so I'll have quite more clearance. Performance is killer, the truck has never been smoother offroad.

I'm torn at the moment between adjusting the lower mounts to give me a bit more uptravel and dropping the bumps and keeping the uptravel where its at. I do have plans for 35s and my 33s rubbed the fender well when I maxed the rear out with the bumps where they are right now. So I kinda needed to lower the bumps a bit anyway. Not sure what I'm going to do yet so feel free to throw out opinions. Part of it will probably depend on how the travel of the shocks works out. We were on a time frame wheeling this weekend so I didn't to too much testing and measuring.

Rear lower mounts. We were shooting for about 4.5 up and 5.5 down and itll be right around there once I swap to OME 861s. Theres a ton of junk in the truck at the moment so 9 wraps have sagged and this picture shows more like a 3.75 up and 6.25 down but you get the idea

Are you bottoming out your shocks before you hit bump stops?
Also what offset wheels are you running and any spacers?

At the moment yes. We set up the shocks with the intention of adjusting the bumps as I was rubbing at full stuff. New bumpstops should be here soonish

Wheels are 4" BS
 
I'm in the process of outboarding my shocks right now and I had to lower my bump stops an inch to keep my tire from rubbing the shocks at full compression. That's with 1.25" wheel spacers. How close are you to rubbing your shock body on the frame at full rebound? I'm going to end up cutting into the frame and plating the area to get shock clearence at full rebound. I'm running 12" shocks though
 
I know I dont hit the frame because i pulled the back tire a couple times wheeling and I dont have any marks on the shock or frame, but I'm not sure how close it is. I'll try to grab a picture. 12s will make it a bit harder for sure, but from looking at mine there should be enough room for them
 
Here is where I'm at right now. The mount is almost done but I still gotta notch the frame to get it to clear. I'm also going to tuck the mount about 1/4" into the frame to help clear tires. After cycling the suspension I realized how little room there actually is in there. If I were to do it again I would just keep the mounts inside the frame and just raise the mounts into the cab

Looks good man. with a 12" body I could see how pitching them up into the body would be good. But the additional damping from running them outside the frame is pretty helpful

Take, for example, the Icon 2.0 aluminum rear shocks for the 3rd gen (for 0-2" of lift) vs the 2.0 aluminum rear shocks for the 4th gen (for 2-4" of lift), which to my understanding, require extended bump stops. The 3rd gen shock you sacrifice down travel, and the 4th gen shock you sacrifice uptravel. Does anyone have insight or experience with which you believe is better? Is a 3" lift with the 3rd gen Icon shock a bad idea?

As a side note, is there anywhere I can find extended lengths and compressed lengths for the rear Icon shocks? I don't see that info on their site. Thanks.

I personally would rather sacrifice my down travel than my up travel. Some folks are happy to sacrifice their up travel so that they don't have to do any body modifications to fit larger tires.

Also Icon kinda sucks when it comes to product information. Even if you email them, they won't give you much info. King and Fox are always more than happy to give out their product information.
